The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan) novel Chapter 738

The next morning, Harold's eyes fluttered open at half-past eight. With an hour to spare before he had to be at the office, he stretched luxuriously in bed and suddenly remembered the absurd idea that had popped into his head the night before: to pursue the first unmarried woman he saw, just so Mr. Evans would stop nagging him about his love life.

Taking a deep breath, he flung the curtains wide, and there she was, striding out of the "Creek" beauty salon across the street. She was tall, dressed with casual elegance, and exuded sophistication. She wore sunglasses, and combined with the distance, her features remained a mystery. Harold quickly snapped a photo with his phone, but even zoomed in, her face was a blur, though her aura was undeniable.

Harold figured a woman like that was out of his league, but at least he could make an attempt. It would show Ronan that his infatuation with Cordelia was indeed over. The woman got into her BMW, and Harold hurriedly threw on clothes and bolted downstairs, taking the steps two at a time until he was in front of her car.

She hadn't left yet and was touching up her makeup in the rearview mirror. When she noticed the tousle-haired young man blocking her way, she rolled down her window. "Can I help you?" she asked, her voice light and youthful, still hidden behind the shades.

"Hey, if it's cool with you, could I maybe get your number?" Harold was squinting against the sunlight, his tanned, healthy complexion adding an extra dash of rugged charm. It was a ridiculous approach, but to her, it showed guts.

"Come here," she said with a laugh.

Harold hesitated, wondering if he'd regret this if she was married.

"Are you married?" he asked, plowing ahead.
