The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan) novel Chapter 749

As Willow finished swapping out her pad, the crimson stain on her pants was still noticeable. Harold, ever the gentleman, took off his jacket and handed it to her.

There was a palpable tension between them, a kind of unspoken chemistry that crackled in the air.

Wrapping Harold's jacket around her waist, Willow covered the stain. "I guess I should head home," she said with an awkward shrug.

"Let me give you a lift."

"Oh, no need. I'll just grab a cab." Without waiting for a response, Willow turned and walked away.

Harold stood there, watching her retreat, lost in thought for a long while.

From that day on, Harold tried reaching out to Willow on Messenger, but she wasn’t responding. As time passed, she even blocked him. Phone calls were no better; she simply wouldn’t answer. It was as if she had vanished into thin air, leaving Harold with a slew of unanswered questions. He started to wonder if she had ever really been a part of his life at all.

Harold was getting anxious. If this was just some sort of hard-to-get game she was playing, he could deal with that. But if there were other reasons for her withdrawal—her age or something else—he couldn’t accept it.

Lately, Harold had been on edge, and even Brenda, who occasionally stopped by to drop off paperwork, noticed his distracted state. One time she had to call his name several times before he snapped out of his daydream.

Brenda figured the boy was growing up and had his share of worries.

Not knowing what else to do, she confided in Cordelia, who had introduced Harold to the company and was a friend of his. It seemed best to let Cordelia give him some advice.

When Brenda mentioned that Harold seemed to have a case of the "lovesick blues," Cordelia, swamped with her own work, couldn’t be bothered with such matters. Instead, she passed the task onto Ronan.

Ronan was tickled to hear about Harold’s predicament. "Harold’s got a crush? This I’ve got to see. Time for a little heart-to-heart," he mused.

It seemed that Harold’s woes were quite the talk, probably linked to the woman he had been seen with at the barbecue that one time.

Ronan suggested they go for barbecue again.

"Where at?" Harold asked.

Ronan named the spot where Harold had last gone with Willow, and Harold fell silent for a long stretch.
