A notification had just popped up in the group chat stating that the construction team would be entering the site next week.
Lucy immediately followed up: [Regarding project supervision, the company will send someone back to the country to take charge. They will ensure construction follows the blueprints. Communicate with them if any issues arise.]
After reading the message, Kingsley sent a text directly to Sean: [They're sending a different person? Since when? Why the change all of a sudden?]
Sean's reply came quickly: [It's in the contract. Do you want me to show you? It's just someone to keep an eye on progress. Any actual issues will still go through Lucy.]
He immediately followed up with another message, clearly teasing: [Why? Did you want your ex-wife to come back?]
Kingsley glanced at the message and didn't reply.
Sean's curiosity was piqued, and he sent another text: [Are you actually worried about the project, or do you just want to see her?]
Kingsley glanced at the phone, too lazy to dignify that with a response. He picked up his tablet and began reviewing documents.
His expression was cold, his thin lips pressed into a sharp line, and the way his finger swiped across the screen betrayed a hint of impatience.
The car was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. In the passenger seat, Shane felt a chill run down his spine.
He racked his brain, "Did I say something wrong tonight? Did I do something wrong?"
After thinking it over, he decided he wouldn't say a single word until he got out of the car.
Back at the manor, after lulling Seven to sleep, Lucy quietly got up and went to the study.
As soon as she turned on her phone, she saw a new message from Jules: [I get the feeling your ex-husband's visit is actually about you.]
Lucy replied: [Jules, you're a gossip.]
Her fingers typed the words, but she felt no ripple of emotion in her heart. "About me"? The phrase sounded like a joke—full of irony.
She set the phone aside and opened her computer to start drafting. Although she was on leave, she had projects that needed wrapping up; she couldn't just ignore them.
Lucy spoke softly. "Jules, when I came to Switzerland, it was firstly for Seven, and secondly because I didn't want to go back to the Capital."
There were places and people she just wanted to avoid entirely.
"Yeah, I get it." Jules didn't press further. "Spend some quality time with Seven. I won't disturb you." He hung up.
On the other side, Jules looked at the contract on his desk, his fingers tapping lightly on the surface.
The contract didn't specify a lead designer, yet it explicitly required the designer to follow the process from start to finish.
He leaned back in his chair. Something was wrong; his gut told him that much the longer he thought about it.
There were plenty of famous interior designers domestically; did Kingsley really need to fly all the way to Switzerland to negotiate this?
It seemed the designer wasn't the point, and the project was just an excuse.
