"Don't let looks deceive you. Men like that—handsome, gentlemanly—are usually wild in private. Don't be fooled by the exterior."
Lucy glanced at him sideways, her tone exasperated. "Why are you telling me this? I'm not a naïve little girl just entering society."
"Just giving you a heads-up. Finding a partner is safer back home..."
Jules continued to ramble. Lucy watched his mouth, which hadn't stopped moving since the dance began, and felt tired just looking at it.
She really didn't want to listen anymore. She grabbed her clutch and stood up to leave.
Jules hurried to ask, "Where are you going? Don't run off."
"Restroom. Want to join me?" Lucy asked without turning back, her pace undiminished.
Right now, she just wanted a quiet place to breathe. Jules was too noisy.
Just as Lucy reached the restroom entrance, she heard several blonde beauties chatting inside. The topic was entirely about the men at the banquet.
The corner of her mouth lifted in a private smirk. Women never could resist a handsome face and a bit of gossip.
Meanwhile, although Peter failed to pick up Lucy, he inadvertently gained some "intelligence."
He walked quickly to Kingsley, his tone probing. "Kingsley, your ex-wife has a boyfriend. It's the President of The Holt Group."
The hand Kingsley used to hold his wine glass tightened abruptly, his knuckles turning white.
The image of Lucy and Jules dancing intimately surfaced in his mind again. He downed the red wine in one gulp, his Adam's apple bobbing as he swallowed suppressed emotions.
Ethan, watching from the side, patted his shoulder. Half-joking, half-serious, he said, "It's fine. It's just a boyfriend, not a husband. You have money; isn't poaching someone easy?"
With that, she lifted her skirt to walk away.
Kingsley watched her resolute back. After a moment of silence, he turned and walked in the other direction.
Back in the hall, Lucy found a secluded corner to sit, thinking she could finally have some peace.
But a second later, her gaze froze. Not far away, two men were embracing and kissing.
She quickly averted her eyes, thinking to herself, "Seriously? Why don't they find some privacy?"
Lucy didn't dare stay longer. She quietly slipped out of the corner.
She pulled out her phone and messaged Jules: [Leaving? I'll wait for you at the entrance.]
