The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 147

He really did have to get up.

David gently slid his arm out from under the covers and got out of bed. He stepped into the bathroom for a cold shower, then pulled on a black shirt and matching trousers. As he walked into his office, he froze for a second.

Someone was already there. Jessa.

She turned to him, her lips curved in a knowing smile. “David, did you just wake up?”

It was already eight. Jessa was here, and she’d never seen David sleep in this late before.

David was caught off guard. He hadn’t expected Jessa to show up so early.

Right then, Aiden hurried in. “Sir, I just stopped by the marketing department. I didn’t know Ms. Irvine was here…”

Aiden knew the boss had spent the night in the lounge with his wife. Mrs. Harmon was probably still in bed, and now Jessa had arrived.

This was bad. Really bad.

Were these two women about to fight over his boss? Would it turn into a catfight, hair-pulling and all?

Aiden didn’t even want to look at David’s face.

Jessa, with that sixth sense women always seemed to have, picked up on the tension right away. “What’s going on? I can’t be here now?”

Her eyes drifted to the door of David’s private lounge. “David, you don’t have some girl hiding in there, do you? Worried I might catch you?”

She started toward the lounge.

David stepped in front of her, blocking her way.

“David, why won’t you let me in? I called you so many times last night and you didn’t answer. Now you’re getting up late. Were you with someone else?”

David’s brow tightened just a little. He looked at her, voice low and steady. “Jessa, please wait outside.”

He wanted her to leave?

Why should she?

Jessa’s doubts started to melt away. Maybe she was just being paranoid. David wouldn’t cheat on her. She was just so scared of losing him.

She looked at David, apologetic. “David, I’m sorry. I’ll let you get back to work.”

Jessa left the office.

David watched her go, then stepped into the now-empty lounge.

Had Ella really left?

No way.

She couldn’t have just disappeared.

David’s eyes swept around the room and landed on his wardrobe.

The closet door was shut. It looked like someone might be hiding inside.
