He knew she was quick, but he never expected her to be this quick.
David had always been unbeatable at video games. No one had ever given him a real challenge—until Ella showed up. She was matching him move for move, and honestly, he hadn’t seen it coming.
Cedric was starting to panic. “Come on, David, you can’t let Ella take you down. Focus, seriously. If you lose this round, I’m dropping from Legend all the way down to Bronze. I can’t handle that kind of heartbreak.”
Just as he finished complaining, Aiden walked into the room. “Sir, there’s a call from the old house…”
Did something happen at the family estate?
David’s attention slipped for just a second. Then, GAME OVER flashed on the screen.
David’s hands froze on the controller. He’d lost.
In that brief moment of distraction, Ella’s character had landed the final blow, knocking him flat on the ground. He’d actually lost. To Ella.
He’d planned on teaching her a lesson, maybe make her beg for mercy. Instead…
A loud, dramatic wail came from Cedric. He stared at his account like he couldn’t believe it. “David, you actually lost? Oh my god, I’m Bronze now. This can’t be happening…”
It had taken him three years to reach Legend rank, but apparently all it took to lose it was one Ella.
Why did it have to be her?
Cedric clutched his chest, looking devastated.
David just sat there in disbelief for a moment. He had actually lost to Ella. He couldn’t help but let out a quiet laugh, pressing his tongue against the inside of his cheek, trying to hide how amused he was. She really did keep surprising him.
He looked up at Aiden. “So, what happened with Grandma?”
She hesitated, then accepted the call. David’s face filled her phone screen.
He was sitting back in a black leather office chair, dressed in a crisp white shirt. The expensive, custom tailoring hugged his chest and shoulders, giving him an effortlessly powerful look. He had that kind of mature, strikingly handsome face that just screamed “untouchable.”
David was known as the hardest guy to win over in all of Rockford Bay.
Ella looked at him. “Did you need something?”
He was looking back at her—really looking. Ella had just showered, and her long dark hair was twisted into a messy bun, a few wisps falling loose around her pale neck. She looked soft, natural, and a little bit dreamy.
And then there was what she was wearing. Just a simple white camisole, thin straps resting on her delicate shoulders, showing off smooth, glowing skin that seemed even brighter under the light. The effect was… well, it was impossible to ignore.
David’s eyes paused on her for a split second. He’d never seen her like this before. Fresh out of the shower, hair up, wearing something so simple. She looked every bit like the sweet, fresh-faced college girl she was.
