Jace stayed quiet, giving nothing away.
Lilly watched him closely. He’d just gotten out of the shower, his short hair still damp, the water making it darker and more unruly. He was dressed in a black t-shirt and black pants, simple but somehow making him look even younger and more handsome.
He could really cook too. He’d been practicing since he was a kid, and honestly, a guy who could cook was about as attractive as it got in her book.
The longer Lilly looked at him, the more her heart fluttered. “Jace, why are you ignoring me? If you keep this up, I’m going to tickle you, you know.”
She reached out, fingers wiggling playfully.
Her soft hand landed on his waist, making him shiver a little. Jace caught both her wrists in one hand, then firmly pushed her back against the wall. “What are you doing? Behave.”
Lilly tried to pull her hands free, pouting. “Why are you so mean?”
Jace didn’t let go.
On her tiptoes, Lilly leaned in and pressed a quick kiss to his lips.
He went still, like he’d been shocked.
When he didn’t push her away, she got braver, moving in to kiss him again.
Every breath Jace took was filled with the scent of her, soft and sweet. It was nothing like his own soap. She smelled expensive, like flowers and warmth. It was addictive.
Finally, Jace let go of her wrists.
Lilly wrapped her arms around his waist, deepening the kiss, nudging his lips apart.
He always acted so cold and untouchable, but once she got close, she could feel the fire burning inside him. Kissing him was her favorite thing in the world.
Jace’s body, which had just started to cool down, was suddenly burning up all over again.
Right then, Tiffany’s voice called out from the other room. “Why does something smell burnt?”
Tiffany rushed in. “Jace, did you burn the food?”
She was blind, and this was her own house, so she didn’t bother knocking before coming in.
Startled, Lilly jumped back, her cheeks turning a deep red.
Jace’s face, usually as calm and unreadable as stone, barely showed a flicker of emotion. He quickly turned off the stove. “Mom, I just forgot to turn off the burner. It’s okay.”
