Ella had arrived.
Jessa stiffened. “What is Ella doing here?”
David’s eyes locked on Ella, watching her closely.
Ella walked over, and Wyatt slid an arm around her waist. “Good evening, Ella.”
Grandma Jill, Jessa, Maureen, and Rachel gathered around, their attention drawn to Ella, who looked more stunning than ever. Grandma Jill’s voice dripped with fake sweetness. “Ella, what brings you here? Are you here to see Doctor E too? She really is famous. So many people admire her. Even a housewife like you knows her name.”
Ella raised an eyebrow. “That’s right. I’m here for Doctor E.”
Maureen let out a mocking laugh. “Even if you meet Doctor E, so what? She wouldn’t talk to you.”
Ella looked her straight in the eye. “And you think she’ll talk to you?”
“Of course. I’m studying medicine,” Maureen replied, sounding proud of herself.
Rachel jumped in. “Ella, today is a big day. The real Doctor E is finally coming to Rockford Bay. Please, try not to embarrass the Irvine family with your little tricks. Don’t make us look bad.”
Ella just smiled, not bothering to argue.
Wyatt watched the Irvines, a small smile tugging at his lips. They had no idea what was coming for them.
David’s cool gaze landed on Ella. “You really came to see Doctor E?”
Ella nodded. “Yeah.”
Wyatt checked his watch. “She should be making her entrance any minute now.”
Ella gave a polite smile. “I’ll excuse myself for a bit.”
She turned and left.
As soon as Ella was gone, Jessa clung to David’s arm, her voice dripping with disdain. “David, I bet Ella’s up to something again. She knows Doctor E can help me. She’s probably plotting to stop her.”
Grandma Jill nodded firmly. “Exactly. We need to make sure Doctor E stays away from Ella.”
David pressed his lips together, saying nothing.
