All eyes landed on Jessa. “So Mrs. Irvine and Jessa have been plotting together to get rid of Ella.”
“Good thing Ella is Doctor E. If she weren’t, she would be dead by now.”
“And Jessa took Ella’s mom, her family, her place in the house. Isn’t that enough? Why does she still want to hurt Doctor E?”
“Some people are just born bad, I guess.”
Jessa, the so-called bad seed, just stood there, speechless. She could finally see the way Ella had set every trap, one after another, and she had walked right into all of them.
David watched Jessa, disappointment written all over his face. “Jessa, why did you do this? I can’t believe you’d let me down like this.”
She suddenly felt like a stranger to him. Was she still that sweet girl he remembered from all those years ago, hiding away in that cave?
Jessa tried to defend herself. “I…”
Ella didn’t even let her finish. She stepped forward, her gaze hard. “Jessa, do you get it now? This is why I won’t help you. I’m not some saint. Why should I save someone who wants me dead?”
Ella turned to David. “Mr. Harmon, now that you know Jessa tried to kill me, do you still want me to save her?”
Jessa’s fear spiked. She didn’t want to die. Grabbing David’s arm, she pleaded, “David, please… help me.”
David pressed his lips together, his jaw clenched tight.
Ella’s voice rang out. “Jessa, if you want my help, then beg for it. Get on your knees and beg me.”
Maureen had already knelt earlier, but now Ella wanted Jessa to do it too. Watching Jessa kneel was going to be even more satisfying.
