The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 36

During the argument, Dr. Tyson arrived, having heard about the commotion.

“Mr. Baird, what are you doing here? Melanie’s health is fragile; she can’t handle this kind of stress. Please, take her back to her room.”

Dr. Tyson, terrified Melanie might have a relapse, urged them to leave.

But Melanie waved a dismissive hand. “I’m fine. Let’s just wait a little longer.”

She was worried that if they left before the boy’s mother arrived, his grandparents might try something again, and the doctors and nanny wouldn’t be able to stop them.

Dr. Tyson glanced at the sobbing child and understood her concern. “Well, if you start to feel unwell, please don’t push yourself,” he advised.

...

Vivica arrived moments later. She burst out of the elevator and saw her son, his eyes swollen from crying, and her heart shattered.

“Chaim…”

She reached for him, and the moment he saw her, his little mouth crumpled and he began to cry again, burying his face in her neck and wrapping his arms tightly around her.

Vivica’s eyes welled up with tears. She hugged him close, her cheek pressed against his, gently patting his back.

The doctor quickly came over and explained what had happened. As she listened, comforting her son, a chilling coldness seeped into her heart, layer by layer.

She had never imagined that her parents’ favoritism and parasitism could reach such a depraved level. They were willing to rip Chaim out of the hospital, to risk his life, just to get their hands on his medical deposit to save their worthless, pathetic son.

If the deposit hadn't been tied to a refund that only she could authorize, they probably would have found a way to steal the money long ago.

She turned to look at her parents, the raw hatred and pain in her eyes so intense that Evelyn flinched and took a step back, unable to meet her gaze.

But Zebulon remained defiant.

“What? You’re his sister. You have money but you won’t save your own brother. You think you’re in the right?” he challenged, trying to seize the moral high ground.

Vivica felt dizzy with rage. But the weight of her son in her arms gave her the strength to stay upright, to find her composure.

She was past the point of screaming. Instead, a deathly calm settled over her. “That is Chaim’s life-saving money. You’re his grandparents. Could you really bear to watch him, at such a young age, just…”

She couldn’t bring herself to say the word “die.”
