The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 37

“What are you talking about? I’m his grandmother, his family! That’s not kidnapping!” Evelyn screeched, cutting Dr. Tyson off and pointing an accusatory finger.

“Hmph! You assaulted a nurse. What would you call it, if not kidnapping?” Dr. Tyson shot back, fiercely defending his colleague.

He had been trying to create an opportunity to introduce Vivica to the Bairds, hoping that if they became acquainted, it would be easier for them to visit the boy. But the scene was too chaotic, and he never got the chance to finish.

Vivica hadn't quite caught the old couple’s names, but she understood that they had stepped in and stopped her parents from taking her son.

She looked toward the couple and gave them a grateful nod from across the floor. Melanie returned a kind, gentle smile.

Evelyn was still wailing on the ground. As a crowd began to gather, some even pulling out their phones to record, Vivica felt the pressure mount. She had no choice but to offer a temporary truce.

“Mom, get up. I’ll figure something out for Zahar.”

Zebulon’s eyes lit up. “You’re not just saying that, are you? We’ll believe you when we see the money.”

Vivica clenched her jaw, every muscle in her body trembling with suppressed rage.

“If you don’t believe me, then you can stay on your knees. As long as you’re not ashamed, I don’t care,” she said, her heart hardening once more.

Evelyn studied her daughter’s face, hesitated for a moment, and then scrambled to her feet. As if to show her gratitude, she sidled up to Vivica and said sweetly, “Vivica, that old healer I told you about, he can really cure Chaim. And he’s much cheaper. You should take…”

“Say one more word, and I’m done with Zahar.”

Evelyn immediately snapped her mouth shut, her eyes filled with a look of wounded injustice.

Zebulon, finally noticing the growing crowd, felt a flicker of shame. “What are you all staring at? Mind your own business!” he roared, shoving his way through the onlookers and storming off.

Evelyn hurried to catch up, calling over her shoulder, “Vivica, remember your brother! We can’t wait any longer, you have to remember!”

Vivica didn’t respond. She turned and carried her son back into his room.

The farce was finally over.

Quintina, having heard the news, arrived shortly after. She pushed open the door to find Vivica sitting on the bed, holding her child, silent tears streaming down her face.

A lump formed in Quintina’s throat. “Vivica…” she called softly, walking over.

Vivica snapped out of her trance, took a deep breath, and quickly wiped her tears away.

“What are you doing here? Aren’t you busy today?” she asked, her voice hoarse.

“I heard your parents came and tried to take Chaim. I had to come see if you were okay.”

Vivica said nothing, but fresh tears began to fall.
