The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 65

Riley froze mid-lunge. She stared at the black and white text in front of her, her expression shifting rapidly.

“Fletcher…” she stammered, snatching the document and turning to him. “They came prepared.”

Fletcher’s fists clenched at his sides. He had thought today would be the day he finally got his freedom, that in a month, he’d be a single man again. Now, that dream was not only shattered but replaced by a waking nightmare.

He stepped forward and took the legal notice from Riley, his eyes scanning it briefly before landing on Vivica. “So this was your plan all along. You hired a lawyer, filed with the court, and still pretended to agree to a settlement…”

Fletcher was consumed by anger, but beneath it was a pang of hurt. People always said divorce was devastating for a woman, but Vivica seemed completely unscathed. The fact that she could be so clear-headed, so rational, and so meticulously prepared to trap him could only mean one thing: she had never loved him.

Vivica had already endured her share of pain; now, she was calm. It was a bitter pill to swallow, seeing their marriage end in such an ugly confrontation.

In truth, the plan had been Joseph's, hatched on the drive over after she told him her initial intentions. He had used a portable printer in his car to produce the legal notice.

Joseph had explained that while a formal notice wasn't strictly necessary for litigation, it was a powerful move in her situation. It would clearly state her demands while delivering a stunning blow to her opponents.

Looking at them now, she could see it had worked perfectly. One moment, the adulterous pair were celebrating their impending freedom, no doubt dreaming of a blissful future together. The next, they were plunged into chaos. The whiplash was something no one could easily accept.

Thinking of the grossly unfair agreement Fletcher had presented her, Vivica felt no remorse.

“Fletcher, I learned from the best, didn't I? Before you even asked for a divorce, you had everything planned out. Are you the only one allowed to scheme, while others can’t fight back?” Vivica’s words were sharp and her stance unwavering. “I told you before: if you want a divorce, fine. But I will only accept it if you leave with nothing, and Chaim stays with me.”

“I will never agree to leave with nothing,” Fletcher retorted.

Vivica scoffed. “We’ll see about that.”

Riley, still in a daze, had forgotten she’d just been slapped. She tugged on Fletcher’s arm, her earlier arrogance gone. “Fletcher… what do we do now? We need to find a lawyer, quickly.”

Joseph glanced at them, his expression unreadable. “Mr. Sanford, if you require legal counsel, I can offer a recommendation.”

The words were a deliberate twist of the knife.

Fletcher stared at him, his face a mask of disbelief. “Mr. Baird, I don’t believe I’ve ever done anything to offend you.”
