Piper
I can tell that my brother feels lost. I can’t imagine renouncing your Alpha at seventeen, then going on the run, not having any idea where to go and having no money. Gavin has always had a softer heart, like me.
Maybe it was because he was the youngest and he was so young when our mother died, but my father didn’t take much interest in him. I probably spent more time with Gavin when he was younger than my father did. Maybe that’s why he turned out better than Grady and Gage. But I know that, for him, not being part of a pack is very scary.
I keep my arm wrapped around him, making sure he knows he’s safe.
“I’ve got this, baby,” Henry says, walking past us and kissing the side of my head before going to check us in.
“Baby?” Gavin asks, raising an eyebrow.
I shrug. “From him, it works.”
“Where did you two meet?” Gavin asks.
“He’s an ally of one of my friends at the Academy. He came by to sign their alliance agreement and that’s how we met.”
There’s no reason to bring the Justine part of that into the conversation. I want Gavin to agree to accept us as hisAlpha and Luna. I don’t want him to have any reason to not accept Henry.
“Have you heard from Gage?” I ask him.
“He doesn’t know whose phone I grabbed. I don’t know whose phone I grabbed. I just made sure to memorize your phone number after you called and Gage ordered me not to call you back. I wasn’t sure if he could track me by my phone,” he says.
“He can, but I’m not sure he knows how. He didn’t exactly have a lot of time to be sworn in as Alpha.”
“He’s really angry at you. He blames you for what happened to Dad and Grady,” Gavin says.
“That’s because he doesn’t know what Dad and Grady were doing. If he does, then he’s complicit. There’s a lot you don’t know. There’s a lot we need to talk about. Did you eat earlier?” | ask him.
“I was worried about getting too much food in case something happened, so I just had a bowl of soup,” he says.
“I ordered room service. It will be sent up soon,” Henry says, joining us. “Ready?”
We’re all quiet on the way up to the room. keep my arm around Gavin and Henry puts his hand on my back, gently letting me know he’s here for me.
When we walk into the room, I see why it was soexpensive. It’s huge.
“Are you rich?” Gavin asks Henry.
“Our pack is well off. But my money is pack money. I’m not usually this extravagant, but I wanted us to be together so you’d feel safe tonight.”
When we walk into the suite, Henry goes to took at the rooms. “This one is the master, we’ll take this one, Piper,” he says, walking across the living area to another doorway. “You can sleep in here, Gavin.”
“Do you want to change? Then we can talk before the food arrives,” I say.
“Yeah. These clothes got pretty sweaty. I think I’ll take a shower.”
“There are toiletries in the bathroom, but if there’s anything you need, just let us know.”
“Thank you, Alpha,” Gavin says.
“You’re Piper’s brother, Gavin. That makes you family. Call me Henry.”
Gavin looks at Henry, then at me as if checking to make sure it’s really okay. I nod.
“Thank you, Henry.”
“You’re welcome. Go get showered.”Once he’s in his room, I turn to Henry. “Thank you.”
“You never have to thank me for protecting someone you love, Piper. Ever,” he says, pulling me into a hug and wrapping his strong arms around me.
1 sigh and let him comfort me. It’s still new to me, to have someone who loves and cares for me like Henry does, but it feels so good, so safe. I want Gavin to have this too.
“We’ll do everything we can to convince him to join our pack,” Henry says.
There’s a knock at the door, just as Gavin emerges from hiş room, freshly showered and wearing the clothes Zach got him. I make a mental note to pay Zach back the money I owe him and to do something nice for him for being so awesome with Gavin.
Henry opens the door for room service and the delivery person pushes a cart full of food into the room.
He uncovers each of the plates, identifying steak, chicken, fish, and pork dishes along with salads, soups, bread, three different kinds of soft drinks, three bottles of water, and two bottles of wine.
Henry tips the man then turns back to us. “I wasn’t sure what you liked, Gavin, so I got a little of everything.
Knowing your sister, shell want you to pick what you want first, but I got two steaks because I know that’s her favorite,” Henry says.’I haven’t told you nearly enough that I love you today, say in the mind link, pushing my love for this amazing man through our bond.
He walks over and wraps an arm arqund me, kissing the side of my head while Gavin goes for the other steak. get the second steak that Henry ordered for me and sit while he opens a bottle of wine and pours me a glass.
“So, Gavin, why don’t you tell us how you got away from your brother. Then I know Piper wants to talk to you about what has really been going on with your family.”
Gavin begins devouring the food like he hasn’t eaten in days. Henry sits beside me, sipping his wine and watching him. When Gavin finishes his steak he looks at the other food. “Are you going to eat one of those?”
“I’ll eat whatever is left. Take what you want. How long has it been since you’ve eaten?”
He shrugs, grabbing the pork and beginning to eat that. ” Everything has been crazy since the pack was attacked by the council.”
“The council didn’t attack the pack, Gavin. They came to arrest dad and Grady. If there was a fight, it’s because they didn’t go quietly,” I say sharply. Gavin needs to realize that everything he’s been told by our family is a lie.
“Was anyone hurt?” Henry asks him.
“Injured, yes. But no one was killed.”I smile. “Raptor’s a good leader.”
“How did you know his name?” Gavin asks me.
“What elite fighting squad do you think I’ve been training for? Raptor’s squad is the Alpha Squad. I’m very familiar with him and his squad members.”
“You’re that good?” he asks me.
“Your sister dethroned an established Alpha over the weekend. Yeah, she’s that good,” Henry says, smiling proudly at me.
Gavin begins picking at his food. “So, what’s the deal with Dad and Grady?” he asks, not looking at me.
ok t Henry. He wraps an arm around my shoulders, letting me tell the story, but silently letting me know I’m not alone. Just like he always does.
“Do you remember Vivienne?” I ask him.
“The rogue? Yeah. She left when you did.”
