The Paper Wife’s Empire novel Chapter 262

Wisteria was about to say something else, but the line was already dead.

This man...wasn't easy to get along with, was he?

Every time she had seen Ramona with him, they had seemed so sweet together.

But the sweetness of love has an expiration date. Wisteria, with her lack of faith in relationships, saw everything through a pessimistic lens. The fact that Ramona had come out for a drink with her today, even without saying anything about Ethan, was a clear sign that something was wrong between them.

Wisteria suddenly wondered if giving him the address had been the right thing to do.

Just as Ramona was returning from the restroom, Jotham was stepping out of his private room for some fresh air. Everyone inside was drunk and lively, and they wouldn't let him leave. Not wanting to be a killjoy, Jotham had stayed.

"Ramona?"

As he stood there, feeling bored and trying to psych himself up to go back inside, a figure flashed before his eyes.

The lighting was dim, but he was sure he wasn't mistaken. It was Ramona!

The bar was loud, a mix of music and chatter, so Ramona didn't hear him call her name as she walked forward.

But a second later, a tall figure blocked her path. The moment she saw who it was, the slight buzz from the alcohol vanished, and her expression hardened.

"Ramona, it really is you! I know you hate me right now, but I've been thinking about you constantly. I regret everything... I hate myself more than you ever could! Please, just talk to me..."

Jotham reached for her, but Ramona quickly stepped back. The crowd made it difficult for her to move.

"Get away from me! There’s nothing left between us!"

Just as she was about to call for security, Jotham grabbed her arm and pulled her toward him.

Enraged, she slapped him across the face.

The slap stung, but this time, Jotham was determined. He wouldn't let her go.

"Hit me, curse at me, I don't care! Ramona, I'm serious this time. I want to be with you. I've already asked Brianna for a divorce... Just give me one more chance to start over. I'll do anything!"

Jotham's voice was raw with emotion. He didn't care about the onlookers or the staff who were now approaching. He held onto her tightly until some of his friends heard the commotion and came out of the private room.

"Jotham!"

"Ramona!"

The Holt Group marriage scandal hadn't been a huge national story, but in Havencrest City, it was well-known gossip.

Ramona's words had just confirmed his identity. She wanted to humiliate him publicly.

The bar's security guards moved in, ready to intervene if Jotham became violent.

The couple who had intended to mediate were now stunned into silence. They had clearly missed some crucial information.

Jotham's face was a kaleidoscope of colors. The security guards and the manager were all trying to calm him down, urging him to leave, but he was beyond reason.

"No, Ramona! Don't lie to me, and don't lie to yourself! I'll make you see that you still love me!"

As Ramona turned to leave, he lunged forward again, breaking free from the people holding him back. He was going to kiss her, just as Winnie had said. He was going to possess her completely.

At that moment, Ethan and Wisteria were rushing toward the crowd.

Ethan had just arrived at the bar when he heard the commotion. Seeing Wisteria still waiting dazedly for Ramona, he grabbed Ramona's phone and took off. Wisteria, realizing something was wrong, quickly followed.

The crowd parted, and there, in the brightest spot of the bar, was Ramona, held in a man's embrace.
