The Paper Wife’s Empire novel Chapter 63

“Ramona? Haven’t you had enough of this drama? It’s been days. Are you planning to cut me off for good?”

The call finally connected, and Jotham’s voice blared in Ethan’s ear.

Ethan’s expression darkened instantly.

When silence lingered on the other end, Jotham mistook it for embarrassment and softened his tone a little.

“Ramona, you’re the most important person in my life. No matter how unreasonable your requests are, I’m willing to do whatever it takes for you. Tell me where you are—I’ll come pick you up and bring you home, okay?”

Jotham was still locked in a standoff with Ramona, refusing to be the first to give in.

But now, Ramona’s team had disbanded, and rumors were swirling that she was about to leave the company altogether. Several key staff members were already looking for new jobs. Only if Ramona came back could he steady the ship.

“She’s busy.”

Jotham was abruptly interrupted by a cold, unfamiliar male voice.

Just three simple words, but the chill in them was enough to make Jotham’s skin crawl, even over the phone.

He nearly dropped his phone in shock, and it took him a few seconds to find his anger.

“Who are you? Where’s Ramona? Put her on!”

“You’re not even worth knowing who I am.”

Ethan’s voice was icy as he ended the call, then immediately switched off his phone.

Jotham dialed again, only to find the number was unavailable. Furious, he slammed his fist on the desk, sending everything on it crashing to the floor.

The noise startled Brianna, who had just walked into the office.

“I miscalculated. There’s another man with Ramona…”

When he spoke again, his voice was raw and hoarse.

Brianna looked genuinely shocked. She’d seen Ramona alone yesterday, just there for a business meeting. There hadn’t been any sign of someone else.

Jotham didn’t really believe Ramona would move on so quickly, either. But he knew, given her looks and talent, there were always men circling around her, waiting for a chance.

Back in college, half the big shots had wanted to date her. Jotham had had the home field advantage and won her over easily, and Ramona had always been the faithful type, never even looked at anyone else.

After all these years, he simply couldn’t believe that had changed.

“Ramona’s always been surrounded by men. I told you, she’s hardly a saint…” Brianna muttered with a cold, mocking twist of her lips.
