Chapter 106
How could she leave now? How could she walk away from the only person who made this suffocating place feel like home?
Alex was rooted here-his blood, his name, his family. He was Willowcrest through and through. She knew that. She respected it. But it didn’t change the fact that she hated this place. And no matter how much she loved him, she didn’t know how to make those two truths exist in the same future.
The bus hissed to a stop and Mia climbed in without looking anyone in the eye.
She slid into a seat by the window and rested her head against the cold glass. The streets blurred past, but she didn’t really see them. She felt numb. Not the quiet kind. The loud, spinning, overwhelmed kind. Where her thoughts were racing so fast, she couldn’t catch any of them.
The weight of that envelope still lingered in her hands, even though she’d thrown it at him
She could still feel the texture of the paper. It wasn’t just cash. It was an insult. It was disrespectful. It was Lucas saying she didn’t matter. That her love, her loyalty, her dignity-they all had a price.
She clenched her jaw, her fingers tightening in her lap. The anger sat under her skin like heat. She was angry at Lucas, sure. But also at herself. For feeling shaken. For letting it get to her. For being caught off guard.
Alex.
The thought of him steadied her breathing just a little..
The ride to her house felt longer than usual. Maybe because she just wanted to sleep.
She thought of calling him, then she thought about what Alex will think if he tells him about what Lucas just did.
Will he believe her? Will he believe his friend? Will it cause them to fight?
Mia didn’t want that at all, he didn’t want him fighting with his friend even though that friend is a fucking idiotic freak.
Walking down the familiar streets that lead to her house Mia greets a few people.
The moment she got to their house door, she knew immediately she was home.
Her mom was quarrelling on the phone with some.
Mia walked into the house, her sisters were in the sitting room too, Ethan was nowhere to be found.
“What a stupid woman” their mom says, dropping the call.
“Mom what happened? ” Ann asked.
Mia was removing her shoes while listening to them.
“Some stupid idiot is telling me to leave her husband alone”
Mia wants to roll her eyes.
“Said she has gotten my location and is coming here” Mary Turner adds
“What an idiot, she should go take it out with her husband instead of bothering you.” Lily says

Chapter 106
Mia greats her mom as she walks towards her room so she doesn’t hear this conversation anymore.
Mia sits on her bed as she stares at the ceiling letting all the events of today play in her head over and over
Alex hasn’t called her, she wonders what kind of emergency he had to go take care of. She hopes he’s ok.
Maybe she should call him? What if he is with his father, or in an important meeting?
The loud banging at the door has her sitting up straight.
Fear washed over her completely.
“Mary Turner you disgusting homewrecker come out” A voice rings out banging the door again
That has to be the woman that her mom was talking to on the phone.
Mia falls on the bed already exhausted even though she was not the one fighting.
God! this family exhaust the fuck out of her.
She lies back and listens as her mom fights back, the shouting increases. Mia wants to cry.
The moment her phone dings, it was as if the heavens just heard her cry.
It was a text from Alex.
*I’m on your street*
Mia couldn’t stop the smile that spread through her face.
She missed him so much.
She quickly puts on a yellow simple gown as she makes her way outside
Her mom was now outside with the woman exchanging words. They were insulting each other.
“You’re deranged”
“You’re shameless”
Mia squeezed herself through the door as she ignored even her sister asking her where she was going.
