The Heir And The Servent Started From A Bet novel Chapter 35

Chapter 35

Julian stared at his mother and brother, his confusion evident. “What’s going on here?” he asked, his voice tinged with suspicion.

“Julian, dear, come sit down,” Esther said, gesturing toward the plush armchair in the living room. Her tone was warm, but there was an edge of determination in it. “I want to discuss something important with you.”

Alex leaned back on the couch, watching as Julian reluctantly took a seat. The weight of what was about to unfold settled in the room like a heavy fog.

Esther clasped her hands together, leaning slightly forward. “Julian, what do you think about getting married?”

Julian blinked, his brow furrowing. “What are you talking about?”

“Exactly what it sounds like,” Esther replied, her voice steady. “What do you think about having a wife? Starting a family of your own?”

Julian let out a disbelieving laugh, leaning back in his chair. “Mom, where is this coming from?” He glanced at Alex, as if searching for answers.

Esther took a deep breath, choosing her words carefully. “I just think it would be good for you. You’d have someone by your side, someone to care for you. You deserve that kind of happiness.”

Julian’s laugh was bitter this time, his expression hardening. “Mom, I’m an addict. Who in their right mind would want this life with me? No sane woman is going to love me for me. They’ll want Dad’s money, not me.” .

“Stop calling yourself that,” Esther snapped, her voice trembling slightly. “You’re more than that, Julian. You’ve been working on yourself, and I’m proud of you.”

Julian shook his head, his lips curving into a faint, humorless smile. “You’re proud of me? Mom, I’ve been sober on a particular pill for two months. That’s not a victory. That’s just… survival.”

Esther pressed on, her voice softening. “What if there’s someone out there who doesn’t care about the money? Someone who comes from a wealthy family herself and understands what it’s like?”

Julian’s gaze hardened as he leaned forward, his elbows resting on his knees. “Everyone always cares about the Blackwell fortune, Mom. That’s the reality of it. You know it as well as I do.”

“But what if there’s someone?” Esther insisted, her voice pleading now.

Julian’s eyes flicked between his mother and Alex. “You’re in on this too?” he asked his brother, his tone accusatory.

Alex shrugged, his expression neutral. “Mom thinks it’s what’s best for you.”

Julian let out a humorless chuckle, shaking his head. “What about Dad? Does he know about this grand plan of yours?”

“I’ll talk to him after you agree,” Esther said quickly.

Julian sighed, running a hand through his hair as he stood. “Does my opinion even matter, Mom?”

Esther’s face fell. “Of course, honey. Of course, it matters.”

Julian turned to face her, his expression a mix of frustration and sadness. “If Dad says no, will this still be a thing?”

The question hung in the air, heavy and unspoken.

Chapter 35

Neither Esther nor Alex answered. The truth was painfully clear-

Charles Blackwell held all the power in their family. If he decided against it, there was nothing Esther could do.

Julian scoffed, shaking his head as he began to walk away. “You should’ve asked him first before coming to me.”

Esther’s face crumbled, her carefully composed exterior faltering as she watched her son leave the room.

Alex lay on his bed, staring up at the ceiling. Recent events won’t stop playing on a loop in his mind, but one thought dominated everything else.

Mia.

Her tearful face haunted him, no matter how much he tried to push it aside. The sadness in her eyes, the betrayal etched into her features-it was all too much.

For the first time in his life, Alex felt something unfamiliar clawing at his chest. Guilt.

He hated it.

Alex Blackwell didn’t do guilt. It wasn’t in his nature.

But no matter how much he tried to brush it off, the memory of Mia wouldn’t leave him alone.

His gaze shifted to the neatly pressed clothes laid out on the chair by his bed.

He was supposed to go to Casa Lounge tonight. Zoe had already texted him, saying she was on her way. They were supposed to meet up and celebrate….

Celebrate what? That he had crushed an innocent girl’s spirit? That he had been an arrogant, heartless jerk?

Alex sighed, running a hand over his face. Since when did he ever care about being a jerk?
