Chapter 61
Mia’s fingers curled around the strap of her bag as she stood frozen in place, watching Alex move through the crowd like he owned the entire damn place.
And in a way, he did.
There was something about him, something untouchable-like he existed in a world separate from everyone else. Even surrounded by people, he stood apart, his presence impossible to ignore.
She took in the way he carried himself, effortlessly confident, the way his shirt clung to his body, emphasizing every sharp angle and toned muscle. He was talking to one of his friends, his expression unreadable, his jaw tight.
God.
Even now, after everything, he still had the ability to steal her breath away.
Mia watched him until he disappeared down the corridor leading to his dressing room, her body almost moving on instinct, her feet itching to follow.
She had to hold herself back.
She clenched her hands into fists, forcing herself to stay put.
Because what the hell was she doing?
Why was she like this every damn time.
She should be focusing on something else, anything else, but all she could think about was him.
How pathetic.
Mia swallowed hard and turned back to Emily, who was caught up in a conversation with her boyfriend.
They were talking about bets.
“You’re betting?” Mia asked, more to distract herself than out of actual curiosity.
Emily grinned. “Of course. You should too. You can double or even triple your money if you play it smart.”
Mia shook her head. Betting had never interested her.
She knew all about it, though. Her brother was a huge sports bettor. He practically lived for it, and when he wasn’t throwing money on sports, he was gambling in casinos.
“No thanks,” she muttered.
“Your loss,” Emily said with a shrug before turning back to her boyfriend.
Mia rolled her eyes, watching as they made their way to the betting counter.
And then, her gaze-because of course it did-drifted back to the corridor Alex had disappeared into.
She bit her lip.

He was probably in his changing room by now, getting ready.
Her heart pounded at the thought.
Should she go?
Would he even want to see her?
Her stomach twisted.
Maybe she should just stay put.
She wasn’t supposed to be here for him.
She had come because she didn’t want to go home. Because she needed a distraction.
Not because of Alex.
At least, that was what she kept telling herself.
But she couldn’t help it.
God, she missed him.
It was pathetic how much she missed him.
Every single part of her ached with it, like an open wound that refused to heal.
He hadn’t even texted her back. Hadn’t acknowledged her existence since the last time they saw each other.
And yet here she was.
Like a fucking idiot.
Mia exhaled slowly.
What’s the worst that could happen?
She wasn’t going to beg for his attention. She wasn’t going to throw herself at him.
She just wanted to see him.
To say hi.
To wish him good luck.
That was all.
Nothing more.
Nothing serious.
Before she could change her mind, she turned on her heel and started walking toward the corridor, her pulse racing with
every step.
She’d be back before Emily even noticed she was gone.

Chapter 61
The underground fight club was buzzing with energy. The air was thick with smoke, sweat, and the metallic tang of blood. Outside, the crowd was growing louder, their voices merging into a restless hum of excitement, anticipation, and reckless
bets.
Alex sat on the leather bench in his changing room, wrapping his hands slowly.
He could already feel the tension in his muscles, the familiar rush of adrenaline creeping in. This was routine. Another fight, another night, another opponent who thought they stood a chance against Phantom A.
He should be focused.
But his mind was elsewhere.
On her.
Fucking Mia Turner.
That girl had wormed her way under his skin, refusing to leave no matter how hard he tried to shake her off. He had spent days avoiding her, keeping his distance, ignoring the way his pulse reacted whenever he saw her.
It wasn’t working.
“That bastard is betting on you to lose,” Lucas muttered from where he leaned against the wall, scrolling through his phone.
Alex didn’t even look up. “I don’t care.”
Lucas scoffed. “hmm.l You never care about anything man,”
Alex ignored him. Instead, he stood and rolled his shoulders, testing his movements. The match was starting soon. He needed to be sharp, to be ruthless.
But the nagging pull in his chest-the one that had nothing to do with the fight-wouldn’t go away.
“Are we going out after?” Lucas asked.
“Depends on my mood.”
Lucas chuckled. “What mood? You’re always in the mood.”
Alex barely reacted. His focus should have been on his fight, but his mind was betraying him.
Dragging him back to her.
God, how had he let this happen?

How had he let someone like Mia Turner-someone he had no business thinking about—become a distraction?
She wasn’t supposed to matter.
And yet, she did.
Lucas let out a surprised sound. “Turner?”
Alex’s head snapped up so fast it almost gave him whiplash.

And there she was.
Standing in the doorway, like she wasn’t supposed to be here.
Like she hadn’t just willingly walked into the lion’s den.
Alex felt something tighten in his chest, a reaction he hated.
Mia’s eyes were wide, like she hadn’t fully thought through what she was doing. Like she had expected to see him, but now that she had, she wasn’t sure what came next.
The very girl he had been trying to forget was standing just feet away, looking like she belonged anywhere but here.
His jaw tensed. “What are you doing here?”
