The Heir And The Servent Started From A Bet novel Chapter 81

Mia stood there, feeling the weight of their stares pressing down on her. Her mother, her sisters-three people who should have had her back. But instead, they looked at her like she was the problem.

Her mother threw her hands up in frustration, her hair still a mess from sleep. “Did you have to hit him with that thing?”

Mia didn’t answer. She just stood there, her fingers still trembling from what had happened minutes ago. The fear still clung to her skin, the disgust still curled deep in her stomach.

But none of them seemed to care about that.

Ann let out a tired sigh from where she sat on the couch, looking barely awake. “Congratulations, Mia. Now we’re back on the streets.”

Mia’s head snapped toward her, disbelief washing over her like a cold wave. “Why am I the problem here? He tried to-” Her voice wavered, but she forced the words out. “He tried to rape me.”

Lily groaned, rubbing her temples like this was all just an inconvenience. “No, he tried to have sex with you. You refused. That’s where the force comes in.”

Mia’s stomach twisted so hard she felt like she might throw up. She stared at her sister, horrified. “You’re disgusting.”

Lily rolled her eyes. “It’s just sex, Mia. But of course, you had to make a big deal out of it and hit the damn man on the head. What if you had killed him? We’re already hiding from the one Ethan did, and now you want to add another body to the list?”

Mia had no words.

She should’ve known this was how they would react.

She did know.

But it didn’t stop the sharp, searing pain in her chest.

It didn’t stop the betrayal from settling so deep inside her bones she thought she might drown in it.

Ann sighed again, rubbing her arms. “Now where are we supposed to go in the middle of the night?”

Lily scoffed. “We? Mr. Johnny only wants her out. Why should I pay for her crime?”

Mia clenched her jaw. “Crime?”

She could feel the rage bubbling inside her, threatening to spill over.

Lily had the audacity to call her defending herself a crime?

She turned to face her sister fully. “Yeah? And I remember landing in jail for something I didn’t do. I remember how I was the one who had to get us out of trouble. Does that ring a bell, Lily?”

For a moment, just a moment, something flickered in Lily’s eyes. Guilt. Remorse.

But just as quickly as it came, she pushed it down, shaking her head and looking away.

Their mother was already on the phone again, pacing the small living room, her voice low and urgent.

Probably trying to find another man to take them in.

Another place where they’d be safe-but only if Mia could learn to shut up and do what was expected of her.

Mia swallowed the lump in her throat.

The only thing surprising her tonight was that her mother hadn’t joined in with her sisters.

She wasn’t defending her.

But she wasn’t blaming her either.

And that, more than anything, felt strange.

“Girls, go arrange your stuff. I’ll try to get another place.”

Ann and Lily grumbled but got up, dragging their feet like this whole situation was nothing more than an inconvenience.

Mia stood still, staring at the floor.

Her mother was trying to sound confident, like she had everything under control, but Mia knew better.

It had been hell finding this place. She knew how many calls her mother has made, how many people she had begged.

And now they were being thrown out.

Again.

Well she….

She exhaled slowly, rubbing her arms as she thought about her next move. She had no idea where to go.

Maybe… maybe Emily?

She hesitated. Emily had offered once before, but Mia had turned her down. But now?

Now she didn’t have a choice.

“Mom, it’s fine. You don’t have to do that.”

Her mother’s head snapped toward her, brows furrowed. “What are you talking about?”

Mia lifted her chin, forcing her voice to stay steady. “I’m saying you don’t have to find another place. I’ll leave.”

Her mother went still, eyes narrowing.

“What nonsense are you talking about? Where will you go?”

Mia swallowed. “I-uh-my coworker has a nice place. She won’t mind me staying with her. And it’s closer to work.”

Her mother studied her, searching for something in her face.

Mia wasn’t sure what she was hoping to find.

“Are you sure?” her mother finally asked.

Mia nodded quickly. “I’ll be fine. Her place is nice. She’s a good person. It’ll be fine.”

Her mother sighed, reluctant but clearly too exhausted to argue. She looked like she wanted to say something, but instead, she just shook her head.

Mia wasn’t sure if that meant she cared or if she was just tired.
