Chapter 90
Mia sat quietly, her hands resting nervously on her lap, fingers gently fidgeting with each other.
She tried to act calm, but her heart was pounding too loud to ignore. Every few seconds, her eyes darted to Alex beside her, watching the road with his usual calm confidence. But nothing about this moment felt usual to her.
She still can’t believe how everything is playing out in her life right now…
Just a few weeks ago, Alex barely looked at her without looking disgusted.
and now she was staying in his space. He was dropping and picking her from work?
The same guy who once couldn’t stand her presence?
It was overwhelming.
“You have something to say to me?” Alex’s voice cut through her thoughts gently, and she jumped a little in her seat.
Caught.
She quickly looked at him, and then away. Her hands squeezed tighter between her thighs.
“Is it really okay that I’m staying with you?” she asked, her voice small, unsure, almost like she was afraid the question would ruin everything.
Alex didn’t answer right away.
The silence stretched long enough to make her chest tighten. She slowly turned to glance at him again, her anxiety slowly creeping in.
But just then, Alex turned his head to look at her, and there was no trace of annoyance or hesitation in his eyes.
None. Just calmness. Warmth.
That look again-the one that made her stomach feel like it was filled with millions of butterflies.
Without a word, he slowed the car and pulled over to the side of the road.
He turned off the ignition, then shifted in his seat to face her completely.
“I asked you to stay, didn’t I?”
His voice wasn’t sharp. It wasn’t even questioning. He sounded sure. Like there was never a doubt in his mind.
Mia nodded quickly, overwhelmed by how sincere he looked. “Yeah… it’s just…” She hesitated, her voice even softer now. “You really gave off the vibe that my existence used to… I don’t know, bother you.”
Alex’s expression didn’t change. But his eyes grew softer-so soft, it made her heart trip over itself.
“I know,” he said after a moment. “It probably felt that way. Hell, I probably meant it to feel that way.”
Mia blinked, caught off guard by how honest he was being.
“But even then,” he continued, his voice a little lower now, “even when I was trying to stay away from you, all I wanted to do

was pull you into my arms. Every single time I saw you.”
Mia felt the heat rise to her cheeks like wildfire. Her eyes widened, and she looked down quickly, almost as if staring at her lap would cool her down.
Did he really just say
that?
She could practically feel the butterflies inside her throwing a whole damn party.
Alex let out a breath, like he was laying something down from his chest.
“I know everything happened so fast. And I know I gave you so many reasons to not trust me,” he said. “But I need you to know… I care. A lot. Probably more than I’ve ever cared about anything.”
Mia could barely breathe. The air in the car felt thick with everything unsaid until now.
“I know it’s gonna take time,” Alex added, his voice softer now. “For you to really trust that this version of me-the one who wants you, who’s not hiding it anymore-is real.”
She stares, still quiet, her heart slamming in her chest.
“But I’m not going anywhere,” he said with a small grin, “and neither are you. So you better start getting used to this.”
He winked at her before turning the key in the ignition again and easing back onto the road.
Mia stared out the window, but it was pointless. She wasn’t seeing anything. Her whole world was inside that car, in that
moment.
She was probably redder than a tomato. She could feel it in her ears, her neck, her face-her entire body had turned into a giant blush. And he just said it like it was the most casual thing in the world.
God, how was she supposed to survive this?
She bit her bottom lip to hold back the scream that was threatening to escape-an excited, giddy scream she’d only seen girls do in cheesy rom coms. And now she understood why.
Because sometimes, when the person you’ve liked for so long starts liking you back, you don’t know what to do with yourself.
So instead, she quietly turned her face away, hiding her red cheeks from him, her lips pressed tightly together to stop herself from smiling too much.
But Alex already knew.
He glanced at her from the corner of his eye, a tiny smirk forming on his lips.
Mia’s eyes peels open. She lay still for a moment, the events of the previous night replaying in her mind.
The warmth beside her was absent, and she turned to see the space empty, the sheets slightly rumpled.
She sat up, the oversized tee she wore slipping off one shoulder. It was Alex’s, and the scent of him lingered, comforting yet exhilarating.
She hesitated, fingers clutching the fabric. Was it presumptuous to wear his clothes? Were they at that stage?
