Chapter 92
They moved around the kitchen together, the earlier tension gradually melting into something warmer.
Mia chopped vegetables while Alex passed her bowls, plates, and ingredients. He tried to sneak pieces of the chicken when she wasn’t looking, and she smacked his hand playfully with the wooden spoon.
“Hey! That’s sabotage!” she accused, giggling.
“I’m just testing for poison,” he said with a smirk.
“liar”
He laughed, and the sound echoed through the room. It felt so normal. So ordinary.
If this was a dream Mia doesn’t ever want to wake up.
Mia feels more free with him, her heart is relaxed now, Alex really likes her. It sounds like something straight out of her imagination but it’s her reality now.
Hearing Alex defend her, stand up for her like that against Zoe, cracked something inside of her
Mia will let herself love this man, like she has wanted to do for years.
By the time they were done, the food was hot and fresh-steamed rice, fried vegetables, and chicken.
They sat side by side at the kitchen island, eating, and the silence between them was no longer tense. It was comfortable.
Mia tries to hide her happy smile behind the food going into her mouth. She’s so happy.
Alex looks at her then, really looks-her cheeks flush even more, as she tries not to meet his eyes.
God, Alex is going to give her heart an attack.
“Stop staring” she said, still avoiding his eyes.
It’s like she has been bathed with all the shyness in the world.
For God sake she has seen this man’s nakedness a lot of times, why is she like this?
“Can’t help it” Alex says and he sounded so sincere
Her heart is seconds away from beating out of her chest.
Finally, they finished their meal, cleared the dishes, and wiped down the counter together. It wasn’t glamorous or romantic, but somehow, it felt more intimate than anything they had shared.
And then Alex’s phone buzzed.
He didn’t check it right away. But when it buzzed again, he sighed and pulled it from his pocket.
His expression darkened.
Mia noticed immediately. “What is it?”

He turned the phone toward her so she could read the screen.
Taken aback for a second she composed herself and read the text.
It was a text from his father.
Dinner tonight. 7PM. Don’t be late.
No greeting. Just a command.
Alex let out a long, tired sigh.
F
That evening, Alex found himself once again seated at the grand dining table of the Blackwell mansion.
The air was thick with unspoken tensions, a familiar atmosphere in the Blackwell household.
Charles Blackwell as usual sat at the head of the table, his posture rigid, eyes sharp. He launched into his usual monologue about Alex’s lack of commitment to the family business.
“Your nonchalant attitude is getting out of hand” Charles began, his voice cold. “It’s time you resumed your responsibilities. You’re not a child anymore.”
Alex remained silent, focusing on his plate, eating his food. His mother, and older brother, Julian, sat quietly, their eyes downcast, accustomed to these confrontations.
Charles shifted the topic. “Have you prepared for the China trip? It’s crucial for our expansion.”
Alex gave a noncommittal nod, not looking up.
“And regarding your wedding,” his father continued. “Zoe’s father and I are finalizing the date. Next month seems fitting.”
Alex paused, fork midway to his mouth. He looked up, locking eyes with his father. “Who’s getting married?”
A tense silence enveloped the room. Charles’s eyes narrowed. “Your wedding is next month. Just informing you.”
Alex chuckled dryly. “Must be another Zoe, because I broke up with the one I was dating.”
Evelyn gasped softly. “You broke up with Zoe? What happened?”
“Alex turned to his mother, his gaze softening. “Nothing felt right anymore. Lost my feelings for her honestly. So yeah we are not together anymore.”
“The date will be fixed next week.” his father says like he didn’t hear what he just said
“Did you not hear what I just said?”
“Yes I did, just like how I’m sure you heard what I said about your wedding ” His father said through gritted teeth
“The date will be fixed next week” his father continued like everything he just said is nonsense.
“You will have to tie me up, drag me to the venue, and also say the I do part for me”
“Enough” his father hits the table, startling everyone.

He glares at him, Alex glares right back.
“You want to dare me Alex?” His father says
Picking up the small kettle that had hot water in it.
Alex’s heart was pounding so hard, he already suspected what his father was about to do.
His mom and brother were looking so scared.
His father drags his brothers hand and drops it on the table
Still staring at him, he started pouring the hot water on his hand, his older brother Julian screams, his mom was crying for him to stop
“Tell me Alexander, you want to dare me?” his father says, smirking at him
