THE SUBSTITUTE LUNA (IRIS and DRACO) novel Chapter 35

IRIS.

Sleep didn’t come easily. I kept thinking about Alpha Draco the whole night. He was hot one minute and cold the next. But even when he seemed upset or frustrated with me, I didn’t feel the fear that I used to feel around Constantine. He would make me feel nervous, but at the same time, I felt comfortable that no matter how upset he was, he would never hit me. And that alone had given me the courage to always speak my mind.

What if he was only doing this to get on my good side? To make sure I would do whatever he wanted?

Acting as his girlfriend wasn’t hard, especially since I really liked him. And if this was all I was ever going to do here, I would surely enjoy this. My only hope was that, while I played the part of his girlfriend, he would not bring in women here or fuck another somewhere else.

I guess that was asking too much, but even a girl like me could dream.

I eventually fell asleep, and despite not getting a whole night’s rest, I still woke up early. I was excited to spend the whole day with him.

I showered and put on a flowing sundress with a sweetheart neckline and off-the-shoulder puffed sleeves. I wasn’t sure where he would take me, but I hoped we would go around the territory as he said, and nowhere formal.

I let my wavy hair down and just applied a thin powder on my face. After putting on a lip shiner, I hurried out of my room and walked along the corridor toward his.

I could see lights illuminating under the gap of the door, but to make sure, I pressed my ear against his door to see if I could hear movement inside. They told me the Alpha would usually come down at seven in the morning. It was only six thirty, but I was assuming that he was already up and preparing for his day.

I couldn’t hear anything. Either the door was too thick, or I was really useless when it came to hearing because of the absence of my wolf.

I hesitated to knock, but before I could fully decide, the door had already opened.

Alpha Draco had just gotten out of the shower, which was very evident with his wet hair. And the only thing covering his body was the white towel that was wrapped around his waist, and seeing the V-cut muscles on his stomach made me swallow hard.

“Breakfast is on the ground floor,” he said while he continued to dry off his hair.

With his body exposed like this, he looked more appetizing than any breakfast I could think of.

I kept my head tilted up to look at his face this time, although I’d been dying to look down again. I didn’t want him to see me peeking at him. “I thought I would offer to prepare your bath and help you with your clothes today, Alpha.”

“I know how to prepare my own bath.”

“I… I just want to be useful.”

He didn’t say anything, but he opened his door wide and cocked his head to the side, urging me to step inside, which I did without any more prodding.

I was only able to take two steps before I stopped, letting my eyes roam around his bedroom. It was too dark, as if the only color he liked was black. The walls were plain black, and so was all the furniture around. But the soft golden glow from the lamps in contrast to the black made the room cozy and warm.

“Find me something to wear that will complement your dress…” His deep baritone voice echoed around me.
