The students got a message in their group chat that a substitute teacher would be filling in for Mr. Milman today. As everyone filed into the classroom, they couldn’t help but stare at Felicia. She was the kind of beautiful that made you pause. Once it was time for class, Felicia gave a quick introduction and jumped right into the lesson. This was all easy for her, and the first half of class went by in a blink.

During the ten-minute break, a few students came up to ask questions. Felicia answered each one with calm patience and a smile. One girl finally blurted out, “Evelynn, you’re so pretty.” Felicia smiled, warm but a little shy. “Thank you.”

That’s when her phone started buzzing. She picked it up and slipped out into the hallway to answer it. “Jeremy,” she said.

Jeremy’s voice came through, relaxed and cheerful. “Everything going all right?”

Felicia arched an eyebrow, even though he couldn’t see her. “Are you doubting me?”

He laughed. “Not a chance. I’ll be back in the Capital tomorrow.”

“Is everything settled?”

“Yeah, all taken care of.”

Felicia let out a little sigh of relief. “Good.”

She hung up and headed back toward the classroom. As she reached the stairs, she spotted someone she recognized. Max was coming up, surrounded by the university president Mr. Salas and two other administrators. He spotted her too.

Felicia gave a polite nod to the school leaders. Mr. Salas glanced over at her and asked, “Are you filling in for Mr. Milman?”
