Chapter 600 Tense Rescue

Theresa locked eyes with him and said plainly, “Starborn Order”

“Impossible!” The old man shook his head immediately.

“They’ve captured my aunt. They want me to bring you out in exchange for her, Theresa said without hesitation, laying everything out.

The old man seemed to consider her words. After three long seconds, he shook his head and spoke slowly, “You’ve been deceived. Do you even know what I’m doing here?”

“Doing what?”

“This glass room is rigged with traps. I’m here guarding zombies. Below, in the underground mall under the bus station, nearly ten thousand zombies are locked up. If I leave with you, they’ll break free–and all of us will die. None of us will get out alive.”

He enunciated each word with grim precision.

Everyone’s eyes went wide.

Nearly ten thousand zombies!

Louisa remembered just passing by the bus station. Luckily, they hadn’t gone that way. If they had descended into that place, there would have been no surviving it.

Miles stared at Theresa in disbelief.

What kind of person was she trying to save?

“This is an impossible mission,” the old man said, shaking his head as he delivered his final warning. “Leave now. Don’t come back.”

He began turning his wheelchair to leave.

Then a voice called from behind, sharp and commanding. “Come out.”

The old man looked at Theresa, puzzled.

“I’m bringing you out alive. I have to save my aunt,” Theresa said with unwavering determination. She glanced at Louisa. “Can you contact Dominic? Tell them to leave here immediately. After you’re gone, I’ll bring him out.”

The moment Professor K’s glass door swung open, over ten thousand zombies would pour out.

Theresa knew that if she wanted to get him out alive, she also had to think about the others‘ survival.

Getting Quentin out would be easy–but the rest? That was another story.

These people weren’t bad–they were the rare, likable sort Theresa had come across on the road. She had to make sure they survived.

Hearing this, Louisa hurriedly pulled a modified shortwave communicator from her pocket. To contact my brother.”

No sooner had she powered it on than a panicked voice came through.

“Louisa! Louisa! We’re in trouble!”

“Dominic? What’s happening?”

“We’re underground-”

A guttural zombie roar cut through the communicator.

Theresa and Louisa’s expressions shifted.

“Dominic! Dominic! What’s happening? Where are you?”

“Don’t come. Run, now!”

Clatter!

The communicator hit the ground, and frantic sounds of pounding footsteps filled the receiver, like an army stampeding.

“Roar! Roar!”

A scream tore through the communicator–Liam’s voice–then silence.

“Dominic! Liam!

“Dominic!”

Louisa stared at the dead communicator, her tears streaming uncontrollably.

“Stay calm!” A steady voice cut through the panic. Theresa said, “The only place nearby with zombies this dense is the underground mall. Dominic has to be in there.”

“What do we do then?”

“If we want to save them, we have to act now. We’ll have to release the zombies. Everyone, follow me!” Theresa’s eyes hardened as she slammed on the glass door. “Come out, you old fart!”

Professor K froze.

He had been trying to gather his things, but with Theresa pounding on the glass, he had no choice. He grabbed his dog and muttered, “Are you sure about this?”

“Move it!”

With Theresa’s final command, Professor K activated a mechanism inside the glass room. The enclosure lifted, and he and his dog finally breathed in fresh air.
