“Fine,” Quentin murmured lazily, as if the whole situation barely registered. People nearby could see Theresa, hear her speak, but somehow she left no lasting trace–everyone glanced, then forgot her like. she’d been a stray shadow.
“Sheesh–we’re short a huge chunk of stock!” the leader of Workshop One exploded, charging into the open. “Someone’s nicked it… and it’s got to be you lot! You rats crawled into our workshop and walked out with company property. Hand it over immediately, or you’re done for!”
The gathered guards froze, confusion written across every face. Then a calm, composed voice broke through the tension. “What’s the problem?”
“Mr. Alen, you’ve arrived,” the leader spat, eyes blazing at Sage as he walked up. “A third of our goods have vanished! This is serious. We need a full explanation!”
“Did you even check your own storeroom? This kind of thing isn’t new for you guys,” Drew shot back, cutting through the tension without a trace of politeness.
When Sage had been dropped into operations, he’d exposed Workshop One’s manager for pilfering supplies. The higher–ups had intervened, and the manager had pinned the blame on a subordinate to save his own skin, picked up a slap on the wrist–and nursed a vicious grudge against Sage ever since.
The leader’s face darkened instantly. “Don’t give me that tone! The losses this time are enormous. Our manager’s filing a report, and he’s taking this straight up the chain!”
“File away,” Drew replied coolly. “No one’s putting a stop to you.”
“Drew,” Sage interrupted, his voice calm yet commanding, his gaze fixing on the other side. “Losing this many supplies isn’t something to take lightly. We need to investigate thoroughly. Let’s review the security footage together.”
The leader barked back immediately, “What good is it? You people already wrecked the cameras! All the workshop monitors are still down!”
Sage’s brow arched, a hard gleam surfacing beneath his otherwise gentle gaze. “And yet you’re pointing fingers at us? Explain that.”
“The cameras were under your management! If they weren’t broken by you, then who else could have done it?” the leader snapped.
“You’re being absurd,” Sage replied, his tone sharpening. “Perhaps you should check your own team for thieves before accusing us!”
“We’ve checked everywhere!” the foreman shot back, voice rising. “We’re talking about hundreds of boxes of company supplies. No one in our workshop has space–based abilities. It simply couldn’t have been us!”
Hardly anyone assigned to these factories possessed space–based abilities. It was deliberate—a preventive measure to stop theft. In fact, none of the regular workers across the three workshop zones had any such
abilities.
Only the security team could field people with such abilities, and even then, their main task was moving

high–value items, like the Eclipse Serum or weapons. Each of these ability users was officially registered. They rarely intervened in daily operations, confined strictly to their transport duties.
Keeping them away from ordinary supplies was intentional–this way, no one could siphon off standard goods undetected.
On a day like today, none of the space–based ability users had touched a thing. With such a massive quantity of missing items, tracing even one would be nearly impossible. Investigations were cumbersome, which is why these ability users were generally left out of routine operations.
That’s nonsense! None of our crew moving goods today had any abilities. How could they have possibly stolen anything?” Drew snapped, his anger rising.
“Who said it had to be today?” the leader countered coolly.
“With all your cameras out, how are you even going to prove anything? You’ve got zero evidence!” Drew retorted. At that moment, another group approached.
“Honestly, this is easier to solve than you think,” the Workshop Two manager said, his oily smile stretching across his face.”Space–based ability users have limits. All that cargo must be hidden somewhere. And with cameras spread all over outside, just check which ones aren’t working. That will tell you exactly where the problem lies.”
