Chapter 655 Your Competition
From that moment on, Theresa could reach more bases and more survivors.

She watched messages flood in like a rising tide. She told Tessa to sort everything out and forward it to Bennie so he could record and file the data.
By the end of the day, Bennie handed her a detailed chart of every signal they managed to pick up.
Outside of her own Blazing Sun Alliance, only two hundred eighty–nine camps were still standing across the entire world.
The idea of nations had vanished entirely. Many small countries had no Ember Camps left.
The great megacities that once dominated the world had all fallen. Not one was spared. Not one held a single survivor.
The people who lived there were the ones who happened to have the right terrain and a remarkable amount of luck. They had long let go of old labels like nationality or race. In this era of camp–based civilization, the only thing that mattered was the camp to which they belonged. People clung to each other and tried to survive in a world overrun by zombies.
Of course, there were
also the few who chose to disappear completely.
Those folks lived almost like early humans, hidden far from zombies and other people. Some did not even own a communicator.
Theresa did not bother tracking that group down. She simply asked Bennie to send a friendly diplomatic signal to every camp they could reach.
After the first day, she received a flood of replies. The most surprising one came from Tyler and his tiny team out in the Pacific.
“Hall, you finally reached out. The second I heard your message, I knew you made it back in one piece. Thank God. How is my sleeping beauty doing?”
After hearing Tyler’s voice, Theresa was reminded that he had once asked her to confess to Tania on his
behalf.
She finished listening to his message and looked up, only to see Lucas waiting in front of her desk.
“Lucas, what is it?” Theresa set the communicator down and gave him a warm smile.
“It’s nothing big. My grandpa wants you and calm, almost casual.
ur Aunt Tania to come home for dinner.” Lucas sounded
He had not shared a meal with Theresa in a long time. After Tania woke up, every time he wanted to visit, Theresa told him it was not a good time and gently turned him away.

He had always been polite. If Theresa said no, pushed. Now that the Super Signal Tower was finally up, he felt like she might finally have a little breathing room. He wanted to see her. He hoped he could at least ask her to dinner. So he waited outside her office until she finished her work.

“Sure. I’ll pick up my Aunt Tania later.” Theresa nodded.

Lucas brightened the moment he heard that, a quiet spark of joy crossing his sharp features.
Then Tyler’s voice came through Theresa’s earpiece again, loud enough for both of them to hear.
“My dear Hall, please reply when you get this. I could not sleep all night after receiving your signal. I miss you like crazy. Tell me your answer. I am dying to know if you return my love. Yours, Tyler.”
Theresa went speechless.
Lucas listened to every word. His handsome face shifted in a way he clearly did not expect, a mix of surprise and something he tried hard to hide, and it left his cheeks turning noticeably red. He finally managed a tight. “Who is Tyler?”
Theresa remembered his sudden confession from a while back. She held the communicator and smiled. “Let’s just say he is your competition.”
Lucas looked genuinely stunned.
“Relax. You still have a chance. I’ll give you an answer later.” Theresa switched off the communicator right after saying that. She took off like the wind and ran straight out of her office, heading for Tania’s lab.
Theresa always kept her promises.
When I make a promise, I follow through. I never step into Aunt Tania’s personal life, but I still owe them an answer whether it is Tyler or Lucas.
“Theresa!” Tyger spotted Theresa running over and called out to her right away.
“My Aunt Tania is inside?”
“She’s taking a nap.”
Theresa gave him a quick wave and slowed her steps as she headed in.
