Too Late She Already Married Mr. Right (Sophia) novel Chapter 11

Chapter 11

The private dining room at the Grandon Hotel was exactly what Sophia had expected-spacious and sophisticated.

She was seated directly across the wide table from Lucas and Emily, giving her a perfect view of the man responsible for her predicament.

Lucas was leaning toward Emily, his eyes lighting up as they chatted. Whatever the joke was, they both found it absolutely hilarious.

Sophia could only watch in silence as the two made no attempt to hide their chemistry.

Noticing where Sophia’s attention had drifted, Lily murmured under her breath, “Know when to walk away, Ms. Evans.”

By the end of the day, the story had spread-Emily was the one Lucas had never gotten over, while Sophia was just a distraction during his lonely moments.

With the original back in the picture, the replacement was expected to gracefully exit the stage.

Sophia finally looked down, taking a slow sip of her juice. “You’re right,” she replied softly.

On paper, three years for 200 million was more than fair. But logic did little to ease the cold, heavy weight settling in her chest.

She finally realized that she had seriously misjudged how much Lucas meant to her.

As she stood to leave, the faint, familiar scent of Emily’s perfume—the same one she’d sometimes catch on Lucas-drifted past her.

Emily glided over to Sophia, wine glass in hand. “Ms. Evans, surely you’re not drinking juice at an occasion like this,” she said with a saccharine smile.

She then turned to the others, “What are you waiting for? Get Ms. Evans a proper drink.”

The two people sitting beside Sophia quickly moved to obey. One held a glass while the other picked up the wine bottle, pouring a generous measure of red wine.

Taking the glass with a triumphant smile, Emily extended it toward Sophia. “The office is magnificent, spacious, and with beautiful light,” she purred. “A toast to you, Ms. Evans. Thank you for stepping aside.”

Sophia remained perfectly still, her gaze cold and detached as it rested on Emily’s gloating face. Inside, she couldn’t help but scoff at the blatant display of pettiness.

Clinging to Lucas, Emily looked up with tear-brimmed eyes. “It was my fault, Lucas. I lost my balance. Please don’t blame Ms. Evans.”

Lily had a clear view of the whole scene and knew Sophia hadn’t touched Emily at all. She started to defend Sophia. “But she didn’t even-”

Sophia gently stopped Lily and met Lucas’s furious gaze. “We both know she was faking,” she said calmly.

Lucas wasn’t blind to the truth, but his loyalty to Emily made him choose to ignore it.

“Emily’s been feeling guilty about taking your office,” Lucas said. “I encouraged her to make peace. Can’t you show her a little decency?”

“I can’t, Lucas,” Sophia replied. “I can’t stand her. Please keep her away from me.”

Lucas’s anger finally boiled over. “This event is for Emily,” he snapped. “You weren’t invited. You should leave.”

Sophia’s clenched hand relaxed. She gave a small nod. “Fine.” Then she picked up her bag and walked away without another word.
