Too Late She Already Married Mr. Right (Sophia) novel Chapter 151

Chapter 151

If all the hell she’s been through was just because Charles wanted to steal her inheritance, Sophia swore she’d make him payno way she’d ever just let this slide.

Richard spoke up right on cue, I’ll have Harley look into it.

Sophia didn’t feel the need to play the selfsufficient heroinehonestly, nothing beats the power of cash when it came to getting things done fast.

Alright, I’ll leave it to you then, Mr. Sterling,Sophia replied.

No trouble at all,Richard said, whipping out his phone and immediately calling Harley. Look into Charles’s relatives for me,he instructed.

Honestly, digging up something like this was no trouble at alljust check the registry, and they would get everything they needed right in front of them.

If it were in the system, one could trace anyone’s ancestry clear as day, all the way back to their earliest

ancestors.

About half an hour later, Harley called back, and Richard picked up.

Seeing how eager Sophia and Annabelle looked across the table, Richard switched the call to speaker so they could hear everything.

Harley’s voice came through the phone. He said, Mr. Sterling, I just had someone check with the registry. Charles doesn’t have any siblings.

That answer totally threw all three of them for a loop. Annabelle exclaimed, No way, how is that even possible?

Sophia stared at the DNA report in her hand, utterly baffled. Could the test results be wrong?she wondered aloud.

She thought, But that’s impossible.

Back when Andrew taught my first experiment, it was all about DNA testingthere’s no way I could have gotten this wrong.

Then the only logical explanation is that something’s off with the registry.

Annabelle squeezed Sophia’s hand, offering a reassuring smile. She said, Sophie, I’m sure this isn’t your fault.

The household registry wasn’t fully digitized until 2000, and it’s likely some of those older paper files went missing or had gaps, so the current digital records might not tell the whole story.

Harley, I need you to personally visit Charles’s hometown and dig a little deeper,Richard instructed.

Sure, someone could mess with the records, but there was no way Charles could keep people’s mouths shut-

rumors like this never stayed buried for long.

In this world, if somethingor someoneever existed, there was bound to be some trace left behind.

Sophia’s eyes sparkled. She said, How did I miss that? No offense, Mr. Sterling, but I’d rather look into this myself.”

Richard could read her like a book; Sophia just wasn’t comfortable piling up favors from anyone.

He nodded in agreement and said, Alright.”

Annabelle said, I think Charles’s hometown is Ginkgo Town. It’s almost my parentsmemorial day anyway, so I’ll go with you, Sophie.

Okay,Sophia replied.

After they settled on a departure time, Richard drove the two of them back. Since Pioneer Institute was closest to Annabelle’s place, he dropped her off first.

Once they arrived, Annabelle hopped out, leaving just Richard and Sophia in the car.

Sophia had been sitting in the back with Annabelle, but now that it was just she and Richard left, staying in the back would make it look like she was treating Richard like her chauffeur.

But if she moved up to the front seat, it would feel way too obvious, so she just stayed put.

The car sat idle for a while. Richard glanced at Sophia in the rearview mirror, a slight smile on his lips. He suggested, Ms. Evans, I’m feeling a little drowsyhow about joining me in the front so we can talk for a bit?

Sophia hesitated but finally shuffled up to the front passenger seat. She had just buckled her seatbelt when the car glided forward.

Richard asked in a gentle voice, Does it hurt?

After three years spent hoping to meet her real parents, she found out it was only her uncle. Even if she looked like she was finally letting go, Richard knew deep down this had to sting.

Sophia found herself curling her fingers without even realizing it, a subtle sign of nerves she couldn’t quite hide.

She said, I’m alright. At least I finally figured out what’s been bothering me all this time.”

Richard kept his gaze on the quiet, shadowy street ahead. He said, If you need to cry, you don’t have to hold back your tears with me.”
