Too Late She Already Married Mr. Right (Sophia) novel Chapter 155

Chapter 155

It was only the second time Sophia had ever witnessed such an eerie sight.

The first was seven years ago, during the infamous earthquake that left devastation everywhere. Back then, she was holed up in a secret underground lab with Andrew and his wife, running some experiments nobody else even knew about.

That day, the sky carried strange omens, but none of them paid it any mind. They were all consumed by the thought of finally conquering a major research challenge, every one of them staying put in the lab to witness that historic moment.

But before they even had the chance to see the results, the earth started to tremble, and the building collapsed around them.

Sophia frowned. Annabelle, maybe this isn’t the best time for us to be here.

Annabelle was seeing such a stunning scene for the first time, and she couldn’t wait to start snapping photos with her phone.

Grinning, she said, Sophie, the air here is so fresh and the scenery is amazing! I need to take some pictures to remember this.

Something’s off about that sunset. That red glow on the horizon is a warning sign for an earthquake. Annabelle, we need to get out of hereright now,Sophia said urgently.

Seven years ago, Sophia had nearly been buried alive underground. If Andrew and his wife hadn’t risked everything to carve out a pocket of air for her, she wouldn’t even be here now.

And now, after all this time, she’d somehow dragged Annabelle into another mess, right to the edge of danger.

They shouldn’t have comeSophia knew it in her gut.

Annabelle sensed something strange in the sky, too, but unlike Sophia, she stayed pretty calm, almost unfazed.

Sophie, relax. You’re probably just psyching yourself out. It’s not like earthquakes just pop up whenever,Annabelle said, trying to cheer her up.

They’d just driven for almost nine hours to get to Ginkgo Townthere was no way they were leaving now.

Sophia pulled out her phone and checked the realtime weather for Ginkgo Town.

But weather apps could only tell her if it was sunny or rainythey couldn’t predict earthquakes.

She tried to find other signs to back up her gut feeling, but everything around them was eerily quiet.

Off in the distance, some folks were chatting, asking each other if they’d had dinner yet.

Is there really going to be an earthquake?Sophia wondered, a flicker of uncertainty slipping through her

mind.

Suddenly, she wasn’t so sure of herself. Maybe I’m just overreacting, she thought.

Right then, an auntie from the town ambled over and gave Sophia a good look up and down, sizing her up with obvious curiosity.

You must be the Evans family’s girl, right?the woman asked.

Sophia’s eyes widened in recognitionit was Sierra Smith, the kind local who used to help her out when times were tough.

Sierra had a daughter who finished middle school and went off to work and earn money.

Back when Sophia was being mistreated by her foster parents, Sierra would often bring her food and hand down her daughter’s old clothes and shoes.

Sophia quickly grabbed her hand and greeted her warmly, Sierra, it’s been so long!

Sophia, is that really you? I barely recognized youyou’ve changed so much since moving to the city,Sierra exclaimed, her eyes lighting up.

Sierra squeezed her hand back, her voice full of excitement. You’ve grown so beautifulyou’re not that little country girl anymore!

Annabelle burst out laughing. Sierra, isn’t Sophie the town’s prettiest girl these days?

Oh, absolutely. Have you girls eaten yet? Come on, come over to my placeI’ll fix up some chicken, fresh from the yard, just for you,Sierra said, grinning ear to ear.

Sophia had just gotten back to the town and didn’t want to impose, but since she needed to ask Sierra about Charles, she put on her brightest smile and gracefully accepted the invitation.

She headed back to the car, hauled out some gifts, and brought them along to Sierra’s house.

Sierra kept fussing, Girls, just come over. No need for gifts. Really, you shouldn’t have brought anything. She waved her hands, determined not to take them.

Sophia insisted. Sierra, I’m gonna eat your food! If you don’t take these, guess we’ll just have to go eat somewhere else.”

You’ve always been such a grateful kid, always sending things my way over the years. Honestly, makes me feel a little ashamed,” Sierra said, smiling awkwardly.

Back then, all she gave Sophia were some old clothes and worn shoesnever really helped her much.

Sophia’s eyes stung with tears. Sierra, if you hadn’t helped me out back then, I’d have probably starved or frozen to death.
