Chapter 174
Back at the tent. Annabelle complained she was exhausted and collapsed onto the bed, falling asleep instantly.
Sophia was tired, too, but she was very particular about cleanliness. ‘How could I possibly relax with dust all over me?‘ she thought.
She grabbed a basin and went to the river, but after the earthquake, the water was so muddy that there was no way she could use it.
All she could do was sigh and head back to the tent with the empty basin.
That was when she saw Richard waiting outside, looking fresh as ever; he’d already changed his clothes, washed his hair, and wiped off all the dust.
Sophia hurried her steps and immediately spotted the bucket next to him, which was more than half full of fresh water.
“Wow, are you here to rescue me?” she joked.
Richard smiled, “I saw you heading toward the river with your basin and figured you’d need water, so I fetched a bucket and waited here for you.”
Sophia wanted to give him a thumbs–up.
‘No wonder he’s the boss–nobody reads the room better than he does,’ she thought.
“Where’d you find the water? Next time, I can go get it myself,” Sophia said.
Richard pointed down the small path ahead. “It’s about 2 thousand feet, that way–there’s a house with a well.”
‘Of course, it had to be him,’ Sophia thought.
He’d walked almost a mile there and back, and still looked like he just stepped out of a photoshoot. How did he do it? The guy’s got insane time management and speed, that’s for sure.
RIC
u’ve been running around all night, too–go catch some shut–eye,” Sophia said.
nodded. “Will do.”
Once Richard was out of sight, Sophia grabbed the bucket and slipped back into the tent.
Water was precious in times like these, so Sophia was careful to use only half the bucket for her wash.
She washed her face, stripped down, and gave herself a thorough wipe–down.
When she glanced at the basin afterward, the water was murky and almost yellow–brown–proof she’d been covered in grime.
Sophia just shook her head, thinking, ‘Unbelievable.‘

She dumped the used water outside, then came back to find Annabelle our cold on the makeshift bed. Sophia pulled a thin blanket over her and crashed beside her, totally wiped out.
She slept all the way until sunset, only snapping awake when her phone started buzzing right next to her ear.
Sophia grabbed her phone and squinted at the screen, letting out a little annoyed sigh.
She hit mute and tossed the phone aside, hoping to catch a few more minutes of sleep.
But the call ended on its own, and the next second, it rang again.
Sophia, fed up, picked up right away. “What the hell is your problem?”
Lucas’s voice sounded hoarse and annoyed on the other end. “Where are you? Why haven’t you been answering your phone?”
Sophia had juiced up her phone with a power bank before going to bed, and now she couldn’t help but regret it. ‘If I’d known, I would’ve just let it die,’ she thought.
“Why do you care where I am? Does that have anything to do with you?” Sophia kept her voice low, making sure not to disturb Annabelle.
Lucas growled, “Don’t forget. You’re still my wife.”
Lucas, we’re just married on paper. Don’t act like you own me, it’s disgusting,” Sophia snapped.
Lucas lost it. “You dare call me disgusting? Listen up, Sophia–if you ever cheat on me, I swear I’ll drag you and whoever you’re messing around with straight to hell.”
Sophia rolled her eyes, hung up, and blocked Lucas in a heartbeat.
She was completely exhausted–no way she was wasting another second on that psycho.
But with Yadel Group’s product launch happening any day now, Sophia instantly pulled up the trending topics, her nerves on edge.
