Too Late She Already Married Mr. Right (Sophia) novel Chapter 18

Chapter 18

But the Evans residence was deep in the suburbs, and her request went unanswered.

Just as she was giving up hope, thoroughly drenched, a pair of headlights appeared. A car sped past, and then braked sharply and began to reverse towards her.

Her pulse quickened as the black sedan stopped beside her. The passenger window slid down, revealing a middle-aged man with a face she faintly recognized.

“Well, it really is you. What a coincidence running into you here.” The middle-aged man beamed at Sophia.

Sophia studied his face, searching her memory. “I’m sorry, have we met before?”

“It was on a night just like this,” he explained. “My boss had a heart attack, and you stopped to drive us to the hospital. We owe you everything.”

The memory came back to her in a rush, and Sophia’s cautious expression melted into a warm smile. “Of course. How is he doing now?”

“He’s doing wonderfully, thanks to you. Where are you headed? Please, let me give you a lift,” he insisted, gesturing toward his car.

She noticed his car was facing the opposite direction from her destination.

“That’s so kind, but my ride should be here any minute,” she declined with a polite smile.

“It’s not safe to be waiting for a car alone at this hour, especially when you’re soaked to the bone. My younger boss’s home is around the corner. Come warm up and dry off, and I’ll have the driver take you home safely later.”

Seeing no graceful way to decline, Sophia slid into the car.

The rhythmic patter of rain on the roof was soothing, and the car’s interior held a faint, refreshing scent like ocean air.

The man kept up such a warm, constant conversation that any awkwardness faded away. Before Sophia knew it, they were passing through impressive wrought-iron gates and approaching a stunning villa.

The staff stood ready at the grand entrance, holding a soft towel.

The middle-aged man, who introduced himself as Jason the housekeeper, took the towel. As Sophia exited the vehicle, he gently draped it over her shoulders. “Welcome, Ms. Evans,” he said warmly. “Please follow me.”

Sophia’s eyes widened as she took in the mansion. It dwarfed the villa she’d shared with Lucas, its elegant facade glowing against the night sky.

After tonight’s events, this baby had become her only true family. She was resolved to do everything in her power to ensure its safe delivery.

As she entered the bathroom, her eyes adjusted to the soft, rosy glow emanating from a striking wall of pink salt crystals. The gentle light created an almost magical atmosphere.

Sophia found herself momentarily spellbound by the understated luxury surrounding her.

It was only when a maid arrived with fresh clothing that she finally rose from the bath.

After drying herself, she slipped into the clothes. The black silk shirt hung loosely on her frame. Clearly, it belonged to the mysterious younger boss Jason had mentioned.

The borrowed pants were too long, so she cuffed the bottoms to keep them from dragging.

She was walking from the bathroom into the living room when she heard someone at the door. Assuming it was Jason, she turned and started, “Jason, I just—”

Her voice trailed off when she saw that the man in the entryway wasn’t Jason, but a strikingly handsome stranger.

And yet, he wasn’t entirely unfamiliar. She recognized him as the man she’d played a chess game with in the hotel’s garden recently.
