Sophia crashed straight into Richard’s solid, muscular chest, her entire face flushing a deep crimson.
Panicking, she hurriedly shoved him away, not even daring to look him in the eyes.
“Sorry, I just lost my balance,” she stammered.
Is Richard going to think I’m trying to seduce him?‘ Sophia worried, her heart racing wildly.
‘If he really thinks that, it’d be so unfair!‘ she griped inwardly, feeling totally wronged.
Richard jerked his hands away like he’d been shocked, shifting a little to the side, the awkwardness on his face. unmistakable.
He stuffed his hands into his suit pants pockets, almost like he was trying to hide something, definitely not wanting Sophia to notice.
“It’s fine. Do you still want to go for a walk?” he asked.
Sophia caught his little move from the corner of her eye–please, she wasn’t some clueless virgin who’d never been around men.
When their bodies pressed together just now, she could tell exactly what he was trying to hide.
Now, seeing Richard desperately covering for himself, she was pretty sure her cheeks were blushing all the way down to her collarbone.
“I–I need to use the restroom,” she blurted, trying to maintain her composure.
‘Better let him get himself together for a minute. If he walks out looking like that and someone spots him, Mr. Sterling’s legendary reputation is gonna take a nosedive,‘ Sophia thought.
With that, she spun around and practically bolted into the restroom.
Once the door clicked shut, she pressed her back to the wall, trying to steady her frantic heartbeat and catch her breath–she felt so flustered she could hardly breathe.
‘Man, Richard really loses it with just the slightest bit of flirting, huh?‘ Sophia mused to herself, still feeling a little rattled.
Back in the hospital room, Richard massaged his forehead and shot a glance downward, a bitter little smile appearing on his lips.
Three decades of self–control, and now he finally got a taste of what it’s like to just lose it.
He looked up, shooting a look toward the restroom door.
‘Bet she thinks I’m just a total creep right now,‘ Richard sighed inwardly, feeling all kinds of awkward.

Chapter 192
Sophia stayed holed up in the restroom for nearly twenty minutes, figuring Richard had probably calmed down by now, before finally slipping out.
Richard stood by the window, his broad shoulders thrown back and his profile sharp–he looked every bit the classic leading man in a romance drama.
When he heard the door open, he glanced over. Their eyes met and, yeah, that awkward tension was still definitely lingering between them.
Sophia cleared her throat. “Mr. Sterling, I’m good now. Shall we?”
Richard’s lips curled into a faint, self–deprecating smile.
‘So I really did freak her out. Now she’s keeping her distance again, he thought bitterly to himself.
“Alright,” he replied.
They left the hospital building under the evening sky, the streetlights around them casting a gentle glow as night descended.
Plenty of patients were wandering through the garden, their figures blurred by the soft, diffused light.
Sophia was still feeling weak after just waking up, and her steps were slow and a little shaky.
Richard noticed and slowed down, keeping pace with her so they could walk side by side.
“The garden here is pretty nice,” Sophia commented.
Richard looked around at the surroundings. Every 15 feet, a warm yellow lamp lit up the path, glimmering off the rippling lake–it really felt like a different view with each step.
“I rarely get a moment to just take it easy like this. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t be out here admiring such a gorgeous night,” he said, a hint of warmth in his tone.
Sophia blinked in surprise. “So what do you usually get up to?” she asked.
Richard rattled off without missing a beat, like this was his go–to playlist. “Mostly checking out what’s up in the markets, A–shares, stocks, and breaking down those legendary trades by the hotshots.”
Sophia wasn’t exactly fluent in the whole stocks and trading lingo, but she knew one thing for sure–those market sharks were masters at playing people.
“Are those flashing red and green numbers really so captivating? Are they honestly more fun than all the nightlife and excitement out there?” Sophia teased.
Richard chuckled, a little self–deprecating. “What, are you saying I’m dull?”
Sophia shook her head. “No way! I just wonder, doesn’t dealing with numbers all the time ever get boring for you?”
“Yeah, it does,” Richard admitted, surprisingly candid. “You spend enough time alone, and you start wishing

you had someone around.”
Sophia stopped dead and gawked at him. “Seriously? I always thought people like you, living way above us ordinary folks, must love being on your own.”
Richard quirked a small smile. “Ever wonder why humans are such social creatures?”
Sophia blinked, caught off guard by how deep this suddenly got. “Huh? That’s pretty philosophical
“It’s because we’ve got emotional needs,” Richard replied, pausing for a beat. “Even if I come off as cold, I’m
human. I need someone, too.”
