Too Late She Already Married Mr. Right (Sophia) novel Chapter 21

Chapter 21

Lucas had been uneasy about finding Sophia in the R&D lab, and Emily’s words confirmed his suspicion. His expression turned stony instantly.

“I should have known you had an ulterior motive,” he said, his voice tight. “Corporate espionage, really?”

The accusation was so outrageous that Sophia almost laughed.

She fixed Emily with a sharp look. “That’s a serious allegation, Ms. Evans. Do you have any proof to back it up?”

“You said it yourself that you needed R&D data,” Emily countered, feigning hurt.

“And you made such a show of wearing Olivia’s ruby earrings last night. Given your history, can you blame me for worrying about the company’s security?” she added.

She then clung to Lucas’s arm, putting on her sweetest act. “Lucas, you know I just speak my mind. I hope Sophia isn’t mad at me.”

An awkward silence descended upon the room.

Linda, who idolized Sophia, felt her blood boil at Emily’s snide remarks. “Can you even hear yourself?” she retorted. “You’re being fake and spiteful.”

Emily pretended to sob. “So that’s how Sophia gets the R&D data. It’s clear she has a spy. Lucas, someone like that is a threat to the entire company.”

Lucas’s face darkened. Without a second thought, he turned to Linda. “You’re fired,” he stated coldly.

Sophia could only stare at him in disbelief.

He was not a man who made rash decisions, especially when it came to a valued member of his R&D team. He knew better than anyone how crucial Linda was.

The fact that he would fire Linda just for speaking out against Emily filled Sophia with a profound sense of disappointment.

“Mr. Westwood,” Sophia said, her voice steady despite her anger. “Dr. Lynn’s competence is obvious to all of us. Dismissing her over a single, unproven accusation from Ms. Evans is extremely rash.”

Lucas’s eyes turned to ice. “An insult to Emily is an insult to me,” he said, his voice dangerously low.

Sophia felt her nails bite into her own flesh. She would never let herself be the cause of Linda losing her

She then turned to Sophia and said firmly, “Don’t bother defending me, Sophia. I’m done working for a jerk. who would choose his mistress over his real girlfriend.”

Linda’s temper flared. Without hesitation, she tore off her ID badge, threw it on the table, and walked out.

Sophia made a grab for her arm but missed. She could only watch in frustration as Linda stalked out of the

lab.

Sophia glanced at Emily, her voice tight. “Is this what you wanted? Are you happy now?”

Emily looked at Lucas with an innocent expression. “I was just protecting your interests, Lucas. I removed Sophia’s spy, and now her true colors are showing.”

Witnessing Emily’s glib tongue twist the truth before her eyes, Sophia felt a hot surge of anger burn in her chest.

From the incident with the ruby earrings last night to the accusation of stealing core technology today, Emily crafted these lies with effortless cruelty.
