Lucas’s face twisted with fury. “And what gives you the right to call me out, Richard? You’re nothing but a jerk drooling over my wife!”
Sophia’s eyes narrowed dangerously, rage flickering in her gaze.
Without warning, she slapped Lucas hard across the face, the force of it nearly knocking him off his feet.
“Lucas, quit lashing out like some rabid dog,” Sophia shot back.
Lucas clutched his face, shock and rage swirling in his eyes as he stared at Sophia–like he couldn’t believe she’d really done it.
“You seriously slapped me because of that guy?” he spat, not even bothering to hide his outrage.
Sophia’s palm still stung, but she was done with Lucas–no way she’d let Richard keep watching her make a fool of herself.
“Let’s go, Mr. Sterling,” she said, her voice calm and determined.
Richard looked downright pleased, gently cradling Sophia’s reddened hand. “Does it hurt?
“Leave things like this to me next time–no need for you to get your own hands dirty.”
Sophia noticed Lucas’s face growing darker out of the corner of her eye. Not wanting to stir things up any further, she quietly withdrew her hand.
“I’m fine. Let’s go,” she said, her voice steady.
Lucas’s eyes burned with fury, drilling holes into their backs. “Sophia, just you wait. I’ll have you down, begging me not to end this.”
Sophia refused to give him the satisfaction of a glance, yanking Richard along without listening to a single word Lucas said, her mind already closed to his threats.
Yadel Group’s scandal was blowing up all over the place, and things weren’t exactly peaceful at the Evans family, eit her.
Ever since Sophia went to Ginkgo Town, Charles and Margaret had been on edge, unable to relax.
Margaret tried to get something out of Sophia at the hospital, but came up empty–handed. So she started scheming, looking for another way to get what she wanted.
“As long as she stays in Jelasburg, she’s a ticking time bomb. Maybe we should figure out a way to get her out of the city,” Margaret muttered.
Charles shot her a glance. “And what do you have in mind?”
“Mr. Everhart’s only son is heading off to Kavisburg for his new position. He’s got a thing for married women.

“If we can get Sophia into his bed, as long as he’s not bored with her, I bet he’ll take her away with him! Margaret sneered, her voice icy and calculating.
Charles recalled Cedric Everhart’s notorious one–eyed son–the guy lost his eye after being caught in bed with another man’s wife and getting beaten so badly he nearly died on the spot.
This guy wasn’t just notorious–he was downright vicious. Rumor had it he had ruined more than a handful of married women.
“You take care of this. Don’t mess it up,” Charles ordered, his eyes flashing with greedy ambition.
He’d fought and schemed for years to wrest the Evans Group into his own hands–no way was he giving up even a sliver of it now.
Margaret’s eyes gleamed cold and deadly. “Don’t worry. I’ll handle it–and make sure she’s finished.”
Sunday rolled around. It was Charles’s birthday, but since it wasn’t a big milestone, he didn’t want to make a fuss–just a quiet celebration at home.
When Margaret called, Sophia agreed almost right away—she was planning to go over there anyway.
She’d already made up her mind to lay it all out with Charles.
When Sophia arrived at the Evans residence, David and Emily were already there, but sitting off to the side was a face she’d never seen before.
As soon as she stepped inside, the man’s one–eyed stare raked over her with a sleazy, predatory look.
Sophia narrowed her eyes. ‘So this is what they’re up to—a total setup,‘ she thought, instantly on guard.
Margaret greeted her with all smiles, hanging onto her arm like they were besties as she made the introductions, her tone oozing with fake enthusiasm.
“This is Kael Everhart, the heir to the Everhart Group.
“Sophie, you two are about the same age–I’m sure you’ll have lots to talk about,” Margaret said, pouring on the sweet less like syrup.
Kael’s one–eyed stare swept shamelessly over Sophia. “I’ve heard all sorts of stories about you, Ms. Evans–and now that I finally see you in person.
“Damn, the rumors don’t do you justice. You’re downright stunning.“
Sophia frowned as she sat down in the armchair, her eyes scanning every member of the Evans family with guarded suspicion.
‘Yeah, real subtle–not like I can’t see right through their scheme,‘ Sophia sneered inwardly, her gaze icy and unimpressed.

“Mr. Everhart, I’ve heard your name around town. The Evans family must feel lucky to have you drop by… what a rare privilege,” Sophia replied, her tone cool and laced with irony.
Emily watched from the sidelines, smirking quietly as she thought, ‘Go ahead, Sophia–enjoy it while you can. You won’t be smiling for much longer.
