Too Late She Already Married Mr. Right (Sophia) novel Chapter 243

"Yeah, who would've guessed that behind all that fancy exterior, he's basically a wolf in sheep's clothing?” one guest scoffed, a look of pure disgust on their face.

"Isn't he just bullying Ms. Evans because she's a country girl and doesn't have anyone to back her up?” someone else chimed in, their tone sympathetic.

"People these days just have no shame. The world's going downhill fast," another guest said with a shake of their head.

Lucas tried to hold onto his pride, but with everyone pointing fingers at him, openly calling him out, he felt utterly humiliated, as if his reputation had been completely shredded.

He shot Sophia a furious glare and said, "Sophia, hiding behind Annabelle and letting her fight your battles—don't you feel any shame?"

Sophia walked forward with calm determination, and the guests instinctively parted to make way for her.

The crowd was buzzing with excitement.

They thought, ‘Whenever Lucas is around, there is always juicy drama to witness. Tonight is definitely worth the trip.’

Sophia shot Lucas a cool, dismissive look and said, "Mr. Westwood, you might want to watch your language. Keep running your mouth and you'll end up exposing all your secrets to everyone—no woman in her right mind would marry you after that."

Now, seeing Lucas, Sophia couldn't feel a thing—not a ripple inside.

Maybe with all the feelings gone, to her, he was just another handsome stranger.

Some of the guests, always eager for more drama, started goading her. One shouted, "Ms. Evans, after everything Mr. Westwood's done to you, don't you want to say something back to him in front of everyone?"

Sophia scanned the crowd, her gaze cool and unbothered.

She wasn't looking to be anyone's dinner table gossip. She said flatly, “I've got nothing to prove—the truth's out there for anyone who cares."

With that, she took Annabelle by the arm and walked away.

The crowd, now bored that the drama was over, broke off into small groups to chat.

Sophia and Annabelle walked over to the champagne tower, and Annabelle looked uneasy.

“Sophie, I'm really sorry. | just couldn't stand seeing Lucas smear your name like that, so | ended up saying all those things,’ Annabelle said, sounding guilty.

Annabelle was nervous that Sophia might be upset, so she quickly apologized.

Sophia gave her a soft smile and said, "Don't worry about it, | know you were just looking out for me."

Lucas had just called Sophia out as immoral in front of everyone. If she'd stood up there and confronted him herself, the whole scene would've only made her look worse.

But if she let him keep spreading those lies, her name would've been dragged right through the mud.

Having Annabelle step up to set the record straight and embarrass Lucas publicly was really the smartest move Sophia could make.
