Too Late She Already Married Mr. Right (Sophia) novel Chapter 59

Chapter 59

Emily had never been called shameless right to her face before. It hit her like a slap, and she couldn’t help but feel a surge of humiliation, her cheeks burning bright red.

She bit her lower lip, feeling wronged as she gazed pitifully at Lucas, tears shimmering in her eyes.

Lucas couldn’t bear seeing Emily mistreated, and Sophia’s words were laced with biting hostility–far too much for him to stomach.

He pinched Sophia’s chin, not gently, and warned coldly, “Emily waited on you day and night when you were unconscious. Now that you’re awake, you turn around and insult her?

“Don’t burn bridges with those who helped you. Show some gratitude and apologize to her, now.”

Sophia scoffed. The pain in her chin lingered, her face ashen as she whipped her hand around, aiming to slap Lucas.

But before she could hit him, Lucas grabbed her wrist mid–air. The next second, he smacked her hard across the face.

The smack knocked Sophia right onto the bed, her cheek burning, her ears ringing.

Lucas’s voice sounded distant and cold. “You dare lay a hand on me? Guess I’ve let you get away with too much.”

His tone was dripping with contempt.

Sophia’s mouth filled with the taste of blood, her lip split, and the bright red smeared across the ice–blue bedspread was painfully stark.

She hadn’t had anything to eat or drink for days, her body completely drained of strength. She turned her head, defiantly exposing the unbruised side of her face to Lucas.

She said, “Go on, hit me here, too. If you don’t beat me to death today, I swear I’ll kill you one day!”

“You!” Lucas raised his hand, ready to strike again, but when he met her stubborn, hate–filled eyes, his chest tightened abruptly.

Lucas thought, ‘She actually hates me?‘

In his memory, Sophia had always been perfectly obedient. Her eyes would always sparkle with adoration whenever she looked at him.

He’d always been used to her treating him like he was the center of her universe, putting his needs above everything else.

But now, that look of pure hatred left him breathless, a sharp ache pressing against his chest.

Sophia watched him walk out, not relaxing until his shadow finally left the doorway. Only then did her strength give out. She slumped onto the bed, spent and exhausted.

Emily shot Sophia a fierce glare and said, “Don’t get ahead of yourself. Lucas is mine!”

With that, she hurried out after Lucas.

Sophia lay sprawled on the tiny bed, her eyes glazed as she zoned out at the dusty cobweb clinging to the ceiling. There was a spider tangled in the web, motionless–so still it might as well have been dead.

Her lips twisted in a bitter sneer. She thought, “Trapped in the mess it spun itself. Just like me. God, how pathetic.

She lay there for a bit, recovering her strength. When she finally managed to get up, she started searching for her phone.

After checking all around, she realized her phone wasn’t in the utility room. Lucas must’ve carried her straight back to the mansion after she blacked out.

Suddenly, Sophia heard footsteps at the door. Thinking Emily was back for another round, Sophia braced herself to curse her out. But when she looked up, it was just Rachel, eyes red and swollen from crying.

Unlike Wendy, Rachel wasn’t one of Helen’s informants. These past three years, she’d truly cared about Sophia.
