Too Late She Already Married Mr. Right (Sophia) novel Chapter 9

Chapter 9

After being away from the office for days, Sophia had assumed her resignation was being processed. But to her surprise, no one seemed aware she had intended to leave.

Moments after her arrival, an impressive afternoon tea spread appeared in their department.

“Ms. Evans, your boyfriend is absolutely wonderful,” a colleague gushed. “He arranged this beautiful afternoon tea service to celebrate your return.”

While their marriage remained a secret to most, the office was well aware of Sophia’s relationship with their CEO.

Sophia figured this was just another one of Lucas’s carefully calculated peace offerings.

She managed a polite smile. “Please, enjoy yourselves,” she said, gesturing toward the lavish spread.

Colleagues eagerly gathered around to help themselves.

Just then, all eyes turned to Lucas as he walked in with a remarkably beautiful woman.

“Thanks for treating us, Mr. Westwood,” a colleague chimed in with a knowing smile. “Don’t worry. We’ll be easy on your dear one.”

The playful term drew knowing grins from everyone, all directed at Sophia.

One bold coworker gave Sophia a gentle nudge toward Lucas. “Come on, Mr. Westwood,” the person teased. “The moment’s perfect. Why not give Ms. Evans a kiss?”

Soon, the whole office joined in, chanting “Kiss! Kiss!” in unison.

Caught completely off guard, Sophia could only stand frozen, her eyes fixed on Lucas.

Though a faint smile graced Lucas’s handsome features, his attention remained elsewhere.

He drew Emily close, his arm around her shoulders as he addressed the team. “Everyone, I’d like you to meet Emily. She’ll be joining us, and I know you’ll all make her feel right at home.”

A stiff silence followed his announcement.

Uncomfortable glances shifted between Emily and Sophia until a coworker quickly stepped forward to break the tension. “Welcome, Emily. Don’t worry, Mr. Westwood. We’ll take good care of her.”

She was determined to take back everything that Sophia had taken from her, and this was only the beginning.

Overwhelmed by the tension, Sophia slipped away to the rooftop for a moment of solitude.

She remembered her humble beginnings three years earlier-just an assistant fetching coffee and running errands.

Lucas’s father had insisted during a family dinner that Lucas find her a proper position, even suggesting she deserved a private office.

The memory of Lucas’s words was crystal clear-a private office was a privilege to be earned through promotion, not a favor to be granted.

Yet now, on Emily’s very first day, he was forcing Sophia to give up the office she had worked so hard to earn.

Sophia was still reeling from the injustice when she heard voices approaching.

“Mr. Westwood, with all the empty offices, why did it have to be Mrs. Westwood’s?” Kevin asked, his voice laced with confusion.

Kevin saw no reason for Lucas to handle things that way; there were simpler solutions that wouldn’t have publicly humiliated Sophia.
