Sophia mentally stumbled for a second, not expecting him to make that offer with such a straight face. For some reason, she couldn’t help but have a brief naughty thought.
She quickly regrouped and handed him her phone. Then she said, “Alright, I’ll let you snap a pic for me.”
Richard took Sophia’s phone, and she instinctively found the most picturesque spot, struck a charming pose, and gave him a
sweet smile.
Richard gazed down at the screen, watching as Sophia stood bathed in the golden glow of sunset. The light wrapped around her like a soft, dreamy halo.
Without realizing it, his grip on the phone tightened, and his heart lurched in his chest, and then started thundering away like it had lost control.
He lifted his eyes, caught sight of Sophia on the steps, and struck a playful peace sign for him. His heart was beating so wildly that it was like he could hardly breathe.
Sophia’s cheeks were starting to hurt from smiling so much. “Mr. Sterling, are you done yet?” she asked.
Richard snapped out of his trance. “Just a sec, almost done,” he replied.
Sophia quickly switched up her pose, and Richard took the shot and captured her right at that sweet moment.
Once the photo was taken, Sophia leaned in to check it out.
She had to admit that Richard knew how to take a good picture. The shot was perfectly framed, with her taking up about two–thirds of the frame, and half of the setting sun peeking in from the side.
The warm orange light bathed her in a soft glow, and the sunset’s rays gave her features a gentle, almost dreamy blur.
The whole photo had this incredible, moody vibe to it.
Sophia couldn’t help but gush, “You made me look amazing. I never realized I could look this good.”
Richard couldn’t help but smirk. No matter their age or status, men always enjoyed a little praise.
“You look great. You always have,” Richard replied.
Sophia’s cheeks turned pink at the compliment. Tucking her phone away, she grinned, “We should head down now. If we stick around any longer, we’ll end up hiking down in the dark.”
“Yeah, let’s go, Richard said.
By the time they made it down the mountain, it was dark outside. Thankfully, Grace Abbey was in the tourist district, so the whole place was lit up like daylight.
When they reached the parking lot and passed a shiny black Bentley, its headlights flashed on, catching them off guard.
Sophia caught a heavy whiff of cigarette smoke rising off him. It hit her so hard she scrunched her brows in discomfort.
“Let go of me!” Sophia choked out, struggling.
Lucas’s other hand gripped her chin, forcing her to hold still while he leaned in. Then Lucas sniffed her like some wild animal searching for a scent.
Sophia was humiliated. She glared at him and said sharply, “What the hell are you doing, Lucas? Let go of me.”
Lucas glared at her, cold and dangerous. He snapped, “Let you go? So you can run off and hook up with another man?”
Sophia was so mad that she was shaking. “Come on. Stop making stuff up,” she shot back.
“I’m making things up?” Lucas snapped, his eyes darkening as he noticed Sophia wasn’t wearing the same outfit she’d worn to work that morning. Lucas found that she had changed her clothes, and suspicion gnawed at him.
A rush of jealousy and chaotic images flooded his mind, his grip on her chin tightening so much that she thought he might break her jaw.
“Tell me. Did you sleep with him?” Lucas demanded.
