Too Pretty to Be Your Backup novel Chapter 106

Amanda glanced over. All she saw was a bunch of bright red roses.

Her fingers kept flying over her phone screen. She couldn’t help but think Travis was acting out of character. He actually gave her roses? Wasn’t he the one who always said he hated that cheesy stuff?

Oh, right. He probably just felt guilty for almost getting her killed this time.

“Thanks,” she said, barely looking up as she kept playing her game.

She was so close to winning.

Travis' voice broke through her focus, with a soft laugh behind it. “Aren’t you going to open it?”

“Huh?” She blinked up at him. “Open the roses?”

Seriously, what was up with him?

“You open it,” she shot back. She was in the middle of a boss fight and had zero time for weird flower surprises.

Travis looked calm on the surface, but inside he was a mess. It was his first proposal, after all.

Amanda didn’t seem to care at all, which, honestly, was a relief. At least he wasn’t the only one feeling awkward.

He’d even googled proposal tips on the way to buy the ring. Most guys got down on one knee and pulled out the ring box.

But Travis? No way he was kneeling. Too much pride for that.

And public proposals were also out of the question. He’d never survive the embarrassment.

He opened the heavy ring box. Inside was a massive heart-shaped diamond, at least ten carats.

He held it out to her. “Do you like it?”

Amanda pretended to take a look, but never actually tore her eyes off her phone. “Yeah, yeah, I love it,” she said, clearly distracted.

Travis' lips curved into a small smile. “So, since you’ve accepted my proposal, we should find a time to get our marriage license.”

“Wait—what?!”

Amanda’s hands fumbled. She missed her ultimate move, and her opponent wiped her out. GAME OVER flashed across the screen.
