Travis reached for her hand, his touch gentle as he slid the ring onto her slender finger.
The stone caught the light and sparkled.
“It’s gorgeous,” he said.
Amanda gave her hand a little shake. The ring wobbled sideways—it was way too big.
Seriously? Finding out her ring size wasn’t exactly rocket science. Even his proposal felt like an afterthought.
Giving her a ring that was clearly meant for someone else? Travis had really set a new record.
She rolled her eyes on the inside, but on her face, she put on the brightest smile she could manage. “Wow! This is huge. I love it,” she gushed.
Something this size had to be worth a fortune. Maybe enough to pay for her tuition when she moved overseas. It could be some sort of compensation for all the years she’d wasted on him.
And as for why she accepted the ring when she had zero intention of marrying Travis? Well… He was the kind of guy who’d mistake a spam text for an ultimatum about marriage. The kind who couldn’t be bothered to get her ring size right. The kind who always acted like he was doing her a favor.
She’d said no so many times before, and when had that ever mattered? So whatever. No point fighting anymore.
She was leaving soon anyway.
This proposal was just out of guilt because of what happened recently. He was trying to cover his own ass, plain and simple.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t be doing it like this. There were no friends or family around. She got proposed while she was half-distracted by her phone. And she didn’t even get a ring that fit.
Was he actually being sincere?
Yeah, right.
If she bought that, she really would be an idiot.
Travis sat down beside her, his handsome face relaxed, a smile playing on his lips like he meant every word.
“Now that you’ve agreed to marry me, let’s just forget about everything that happened before. No more drama, okay?”
There it was.
Amanda’s smile only grew. “Sure. It’s all in the past.”
And it really was, as far as she was concerned. She was done with his games.
