Trapped in the boss's embrace (by Katrina A) novel Chapter 18

Chapter 18 She’s Dead Meat Tonight

Autumn noticed Beatrice’s silence and cleared her throat. Seven o’clock tonight. If you don’t show up, we’ll stick to the one hundred million compensation we agreed on earlier.

Without waiting for a response, she ended the call.

Beatrice pulled the phone away from her ear, staring at the screen with a thoughtful expression.

She couldn’t help but think of Violet’s warning, concerned that Autumn might cause trouble in the final two days.

Her relationship with Autumn had always been tense.

From the start, Autumn had looked down on her family’s status. During their relationship, she’d done everything she could to block them, and even after marriage, she wouldn’t allow Beatrice to live with the Belmont family.

Even their rare meals together were filled with cold remarks and biting sarcasm.

Aside from that, Autumn had never done anything worse.

This meeting seemed more like a way to assert control, to keep her in line, while also finalizing the compensation agreement.

Beatrice had been debating whether or not to go, and an hour later, Gordon sent another message.

[Ms. Lawson, have you decided?]

She bit her lip, thinking it through.

If it weren’t for manners, she would’ve just handed the suit to the property manager to pass along, since he lived right above her.

After some more thought, she realized ignoring it wouldn’t be wise. Offending Damian wouldn’t benefit her in the long run.

At last, Beatrice decided she would return the suit and meet

Autumn.

She quickly replied to Gordon. [Alright, what time works for you?]

He responded almost immediately. [Eight o’clock.]

Beatrice touched up her makeup, changed into a new outfit, and made her way to her parentshouse first.

A few days ago, when Desmond had waited for her at the entrance of her neighborhood, it had finally dawned on her that she was being followed.

Since then, she had noticed a suspicious car parked near the villa. Now, she was certain.

She hadn’t driven far when Desmond called her.

Taking a nap?he asked.

Beatrice scoffed to herself, No. I’m driving to my parentshouse.

Delivering the suit?

Yeah,Beatrice replied, glancing at the suit resting on the passenger

scal.

Seeing that she wasn’t lying, Desmond ended the call.

Meanwhile, he sent someone to continue tailing her.

About forty minutes later, Beatrice pulled up to her parentsneighborhood.

Her parents, both retired university professors, were quiet people. Her father wasn’t home when she arrived, but her mother, Susan. Lawson, looked surprised when she saw her daughter at this hour.

Aren’t you working today? She asked with concern.

I took a sick day,Beatrice said, rubbing her throat and pretending to cough a few times to sell the lie.

Look at you… You’re so thin. Isn’t Desmond treating you well?Susan gently touched her face, her concern evident.

Despite Beatrice’s best efforts to hide it. Susan could tell something was wrong.

If he doesn’t treat me well, I’ll kick him out.Beatrice joked, but her voice lacked the usual lightness.

Susan fell silent, her expression unreadable.

Beatrice quickly changed the subject, chatting about other things. As for the divorce, she planned to tell her parents only once everything was settled, to spare them the worry for now.

After dinner at her parentsplace, Beatrice changed clothes and prepared to leave, telling her parents she was meeting a friend but would be back later, staying overnight at their house.

In the elevator, she slipped on a mask and a hat, sneaking out of the neighborhood under the watchful eyes of those who were following

her.

By the time Beatrice arrived at the Rowe Hotel, it wasn’t seven yet.

The hotel’s interior exuded understated luxury, its elegance quiet but undeniable.

She first checked her suit in at the front desk and then called

Mest tonight

Autumn to let her know she had arrived.

Moments later, someone appeared to escort her, guiding her through a winding path inside the building, eventually leading her to a door.

The attendant opened it for her.

Inside, the room smelled of freshly brewed coffee mingling with the faint, sweet fragrance of flowers.

Autumn sat in a dark green, gradientdyed silk dress, her presence regal as she relaxed in a chair.

Take a seat, she said, tilting her chin slightly.

Beatrice wasted no time. You said we were going to sign the compensation agreement. Where is it?

Don’t rush. Have some coffee first. We can talk at your leisure.

Beatrice raised an eyebrow, skeptical.

up,

and

She glanced at the coffee cup in front of her, picked it examined it closely. You didn’t slip anything in this, did you?

Autumn chuckled lightly. If you’re worried about poison, then don’t drink it.

Beatrice set the cup down, nudging it slightly away. I’m skipping the coffee then.

Chapter 18 She’s Dead Meat Tonight Autumn’s smile faltered, a hint of annoyance creeping onto her face. You’re as rude as ever, always

Beatrice cut her off. Enough with the lines. You really don’t get tired of saying the same thing? Let’s get to business, shall we?

Autumn’s expression darkened, and with a flick of her wrist, she shoved the agreement across the table. Sign it.

Beatrice picked up the contract, flipping through it carefully.

The document, which should have been straightforward, was unnecessarily long. It had ten pages, filled with vague clauses and filler, almost as though it was meant to confuse.

After a thorough read, Beatrice placed the contract down without a hint of emotion. I need to go over this with my lawyer. I’ll give you my response by noon tomorrow. How’s that?

If there’s a problem, just let me know, and I’ll make the changes.

Oh? You’re saying you can change it? How about I draft a new

one?

Autumn’s face tightened. No. It has to be my version.

Beatrice leaned back casually. But didn’t you just say you’d make the changes? Now it’s my way or no way? What’s going

on?
