Chapter 17 He Got Suspicious
1/9
The message read: [Ms. Lawson, on Friday, I’ll be at Rowe Hotel with Mr. Crowley for a client meeting. You could bring the suit by then.]
Beatrice felt confused.
Damian wanted to meet her again at such a remote hotel.
It wasn’t that she was afraid, but Damian was unpredictable, and she just couldn’t figure him out. She wasn’t interested in getting caught up in anything complicated. All she wanted was to focus on her career.
After thinking it through for a bit, she decided to play it cool and neglected the message.
Meanwhile, downstairs in the garage, Gordon sighed and slipped his phone back into his pocket.
He didn’t think Damian meant what he said, even though he acted that way. Not long ago, Killian told Gordon that Beatrice had approached them for the job.
Gorden felt like there was some kind of misunderstanding between the two of them, so he decided to take matters into his own hands and set up a meeting.
But, of course, Beatrice wasn’t following the plan.
Chapter 17 Ha Get Sunportaus
The Bentley pulled out of the neighborhood and passed by a Ferrari parked on the side of the road.
Desmond parked his car just outside the complex.
Frustration was building up inside him. He had tried calling and texting Beatrice, but no luck. And now, he was about to explode.
Soon, the list of residents for Silverbrook that he had requested came through on his phone.
What shocked him wasn’t the fact that Beatrice was one of the residents. It was that Damian lived on the top floor of the same building as her.
He’d already heard rumors about Damian returning to the country.
The Crowley family was low–profile in Cloudia, keeping their personal lives out of the spotlight.
Damian wasn’t in his circle, but they had crossed paths a few times at events when they were younger. Back then, Damian had always come off as distant, like some kind of untouchable statue.
And now, Beatrice and Damian happened to live in the same neighborhood.
Desmond couldn’t help but wonder if there was more going on between them than he realized.

Two hours later, Beatrice drove out of the complex, spotting the familiar Ferrari parked along the curb. She slammed the brakes.
Desmond was standing by his car, cigarette dangling from his fingers, smoke curling around his sharp features. His face was a picture of cold fury.
Beatrice’s mind raced as she parked the car.
By the time she opened the door and got out, she already knew exactly how she was going to handle this.
She approached him, opened the passenger door, and slid into the seat next to him. “How did you find me? Are you following
me?”
Desmond flicked his cigarette aside, grabbed his phone from the dashboard, and tossed it onto her lap. “You wanna explain this?”
Beatrice glanced at the screen, seeing the list of residents for Silverbrook.
She handed the phone back without a second thought. “I’ve worked for years to buy a place. What’s the problem? I used my own money for the down payment, not a penny of yours.”
Desmond’s eyes narrowed, unimpressed. “Beatrice, don’t try to play me. It’s not about the money. Why are you hiding this from

me?”

“I don’t see the need to explain myself. I just wanted a place that’s truly mine. Is that such a big deal?”
She still remembered the Belmont family had accused her of after their money, forcing her to sign a prenuptial agreement.
Desmond froze, then let out a bitter laugh. “I’ve never been stingy with you. That jewelry I gave you? It’s worth more than a house.”
Beatrice didn’t respond.
Desmond pulled out his wallet and tossed a handful of cards at her. “Want to buy a house? Go ahead. Buy as many as you want as long as it makes you happy.”
Beatrice chuckled softly. “Wow, you’re so generous.”
Maybe she should just accept his betrayal, numb herself, and keep taking money from him.
That seemed like a good bargain.
But no, she couldn’t live like that.
She picked up his wallet, carefully putting the cards back. “I’m not buying anything right now. But when I do, I’ll come to you for the money.”
She then placed the wallet back on his lap.

But just as she pulled her hand away, Desmond grabbed it. “So, you don’t trust me anymore?”
Hearing that, Beatrice found that Desmond was awful and naïve. She wondered how he could be so slow on the uptake.
She smiled, a playful glint in her eyes. “Trust? Nah, just do whatever makes you happy.”
And with that, she yanked her hand free.
Just then, her phone rang.
Beatrice froze for a moment, her heart sinking. She was worried it might be a call from Gordon.
Desmond noticed her subtle tension and his eyes sharpened. “Your ignore my calls, and you’re not picking up anyone else’s?”
She reluctantly pulled out the phone, only to see it was an incoming call from Autumn.
When he saw it was his mother calling, his expression relaxed. “Go
ahead. Take it.”
Beatrice guessed that Autumn was probably calling to make sure she wouldn’t change her mind about the divorce now that it was only a few days away before the divorce.
She picked up the phone. “I’m with your son right now. Do you want to say anything to him?”

Hearing this, Autumn almost choked on her words before swallowing them back. “No need. I just wanted to ask if you still want that bag you liked last time?”
“Yes, I still do. All my bags are in for maintenance, so I could really use one,” Beatrice replied.
“Great, then come pick it up.”
“Thanks.”
The call ended after a few brief words.
Desmond watched her, his brow furrowed. “Since when did you two get so close?”
Beatrice smirked. “Isn’t that a good thing? What, do you want me to be fighting with your mom?”
She was good at deflecting with words, blurring the real issue.
Desmond’s irritation faded somewhat.
When he had shown Beatrice the list of property owners earlier, he had been paying close attention to her reaction.
She didn’t even glance at Damian’s name, and her subsequent responses all centered around him discovering she’d bought a property.
Her living in the same building as Damian was probably just a
coincidence.
To Desmond, she was just throwing a little tantrum, doing things behind his back, thinking buying a small apartment with her own money was some big act of defiance.
“I’ll drive you home,” he said, starting the car.
“What about my car?”
