Chapter 22 Marriage License
“Is she here to make a scene?”

“How dare she make a scene? Does she really think of herself as Desmond’s wife?”
“Both families have already announced the engagement. If she shows up now, it’ll only embarrass her.”
“But she hasn’t done anything wrong. They were together, and he betrayed her by planning to marry someone else. How is any of this her fault?”
The guests erupted into a lively discussion.
The majority were practically salivating at the thought of seeing Beatrice humiliate herself. Only a scant few dared to speak in her defense, but they would be shot down.
As Beatrice walked over, Madeline was frightened, as if she had seen a ghost.
Autumn was somewhat panicked.
Desmond, who was even more panicked than her, was about to
go over.
“Don’t go.” Madeline clung tightly to his arm, tugging at him in a desperate attempt to halt his movement.

Caught up in her anxiety, she ignored the importance of the event and acted as if she were already Desmond’s girlfriend. She shouted at Beatrice, “Desmond and I are getting engaged! We’re going to be husband and wife soon, so just back off and leave him alone…”
Desmond like he was losing his mind. With so many people around, he had to keep his cool. Leaning closer to Madeline, he hissed, “Keep quiet.” His expression turned icy as he pulled his hand away.
Madeline felt so aggrieved that she was about to shed tears.
Desmond tried to step forward again, but Quentin and his brother, Oscar Fairfax, grasped him in exasperation.
Quentin asked, “Desmond, calm down! Are you going to embarrass my sister in public for that woman?”
Desmond growled, “Let go!”
The guests became even more excited.
There were more and more whispers.
Beatrice had made her way to the center of the hall.
Without pausing, she pressed on. When striding past the wine table, she casually reached out, grasped a glass of wine, and took a composed sip.

“What on earth do you want to do? Get out of here right now!”
Autumn swiftly descended from the stage and hastened over to intercept her.
Breaking free from Quentin and Oscar’s restraining holds, Desmond advanced towards Beatrice, his expression icy. “Don’t cause trouble here. I’ll explain it to you when we get home…”
“Desmond, are you planning to take one more wife?” Beatrice interrupted him, her voice slow and dripping with both mockery and
sarcasm.
He was embarrassed.
At Beatrice’s words, Madeline and the rest of the Fairfax family got instantly furious. What was Beatrice implying?
She was essentially calling Madeline a mistress, labeling her as a home–wrecker. It was a direct challenge!
The guests were dumbfounded, thinking that Beatrice was bold and wondering why she had such confidence.
Madeline’s features contorted with fury. “Beatrice, you have no shame. I should be Desmond’s wife. We’re getting engaged! I’m his rightful partner!”
“Shut up!” Desmond roared sternly.
Autumn hurried to wrap her arms around Madeline. “Honey, don’t let her get to you. She’s not worth it.”
“Oh no, please,” Beatrice’s voice dripped with mock sweetness. “Let her talk. I’m dying to hear what else she has to say.”
“Beatrice, if you keep talking nonsense, you won’t get a dime of the breakup fee!” Fearing that she would reveal her secret marriage to Desmond, Autumn threatened.
However, in an instant, it dawned on her that Beatrice had been forced to sign the agreement last night. Her heart immediately skipped a beat.
Desmond’s eyes blazed with intensity. “Breakup fee? What are you talking about?”
Caught off guard, Autumn faltered, momentarily at a loss for words.
“I thought it was true love, but it turns out it was all about the money in the end.”
“Unbelievable! Even after taking the money, she’s still trying to stir up trouble.”
“After being dumped by her wealthy boyfriend after all those years, she’s got to be bitter. Now she’s causing a scene to get even more money from him.”
The room buzzed with hushed whispers as guests exchanged knowing glances.
Chapter 22 Marriage Licen
At that moment, the Fairfax family was extremely discontent with Desmond’s attitude. Moreover, upon learning that Beatrice remained so haughty even after accepting the money, they felt a deep sense of humiliation.
Quentin approached, saying, “Ms. Lawson, please leave, or we’ll have to escort you out.”
“Escort me out?” Beatrice replied, her eyes locking onto his with a confident smile. “You have no right. Even in ancient times, Madeline would owe me an apology and would need my consent to marry Desmond!”
Her voice was calm, her tone even gentle.
Quentin was bewitched by her smile. But then, he found it ridiculous and regarded her as a domineering and unreasonable woman!
Others assumed that she was crazy.
Madeline let out a furious, mocking laugh. “Apologize to you? For what? You have no right to demand that! Apologize? Maybe I’ll just send you straight to hell!”
Beatrice calmly faced her. “Not convinced, are you?”
Setting her wine glass aside, she pulled a marriage license from her handbag and placed it in front of Madeline. “Now, tell me, do I deserve an apology?”
