Chapter 23 Kill Her
Beatrice fell to the floor.
Desmond was still reeling from the shock of her divorce demand. Then, Madeline’s words hit him like a thunderbolt.

“Desmond, she was raped. She slept with eight men last night, and one of them had AIDS. She betrayed you. She’s nothing but a total slut! Do you still want her?” Madeline yelled viciously.
Jealousy and resentment clouded her rationality, and she didn’t even consider that her words would expose what she had done, which was a crime and could land her in jail.
She only wanted Desmond to hate Beatrice.
Everyone in the hall was dumbfounded.
Eight men in one night?
And one of them had AIDS.
Was it true?
However, a crucial question instantly popped into everyone’s mind–How on earth did Madeline know all these details?
A sudden realization hit Autumn like a punch to the gut. Her face drained of color, and her hands began to shake

uncontrollably. Pure panic gripped her chest, making it hard to breathe.
Beatrice had already climbed up from the floor at that moment.
She leveled an ice–cold stare at Madeline, like she was looking at something scraped off her shoe. “Wow, I didn’t even have to lift a finger. You just exposed yourself–guess being both stupid and evil isn’t working out for you, huh?”
Her sharp gaze cut toward Autumn. “So this is your precious daughter–in–law? The one you’re so proud of? Look where that’s gotten you–breaking laws and risking jail time. Some noble lady she turned out to be.”
Autumn seemed to have a lump in her throat.
Desmond’s eyes were gloomy and terrifying.
The Fairfax family became uneasy.
The guests then figured out that Madeline and Autumn might have conspired to plot against Beatrice.
This would explain why Beatrice made such a scene.
The wounds on her wrists appeared to have been caused by violence.
No matter how morally loose a woman might be, it was impossible for her to sleep with eight men in one night and risk exposure to AIDS. Even if she were contemplating suicide, there

was no need for her to harm herself in such a manner.
If Madeline and Autumn were behind all this–God, just how twisted could they be?
“What are you all looking at?” Madeline shrieked, her voice rising. with hysteria. “Don’t listen to her lies! She’s nothing but a whore. with AIDS!” Her eyes darted wildly around the crowd. “Stay back- you might catch something from her!”
She continued her vicious tirade, completely oblivious to the gravity of her own words and the hole she was digging for herself.
The next moment, Desmond abruptly reached out and grabbed her by the neck.
He hauled her towards him, his eyes ablaze with murderous intent. “What have you done to Beatrice? What have you done?” he roared, his heart shattering into a million pieces.
Madeline was out of breath.
Only at that moment did fear grip her. She struggled desperately and slapped Desmond’s arms, realizing he might actually kill her!
Quentin and Oscar promptly came back to their senses. They immediately pried open Desmond’s hands, rescued Madeline, and shielded her behind them.
Quentin warned, “Desmond, calm down. My sister might just be
talking nonsense.”
Aria Fairfax, Madeline’s sister, stepped forward to defend her.
“Even if it is true, you can’t just accuse Madeline without a shred of evidence!
“For all we know, Beatrice could’ve been sleeping around because she was lonely. Maybe someone saw her and word got back to Madeline. Think about it–Beatrice probably knew she’d get caught eventually, so she pulled this whole victim act to make Madeline look bad. It’s pretty convenient, isn’t it?”
Beatrice felt the urge to laugh, yet she didn’t refute it right away, nor did she engage in an argument with Aria.
She knew that Madeline would still pretend to be innocent.
Sure enough, upon hearing Aria’s words, Madeline immediately looked aggrieved.
Tears streamed down her face as she played the perfect victim. “Oh Desmond,” she whimpered, dabbing at her eyes, “how could you think I’d hurt Beatrice? My friend saw her at that hotel…”
She paused for dramatic effect. “Men were going in and out of her room all night. And one of them–God, I hate to say this–was that playboy who’s known to have AIDS.
“I had planned to keep it a secret, but she was going too far just now,
“Love doesn’t care who came first. So what if you’re married?

Your marriage is loveless–what we have is real! If anything, she’s the outsider. She needs to step aside and let us be together!”

ller shameless declaration sent ripples of disgust through the crowd, particularly among the married women who exchanged horrified glances.
Dealing with mistresses was simply a common occurrence for them. They could never resonate with Madeline’s statements and instead felt an urge to spit at her. How could she be so shameless?
However, afraid of offending the Fairfax family, they could only hold back and keep silent.
Desmond’s face remained dark and gloomy. “Can you take responsibility for what you said?”
He was referring, of course, to Madeline’s assertion that she had not schemed against Beatrice.
“I swear! I swear on my life! If I’m lying, may I meet a tragic end!” Madeline stated resolutely and confidently.
She gave Beatrice a smug look, her lips curling into a sneer. If Beatrice had any real proof, she would have shown it by now. With each moment of Beatrice’s silence, Madeline felt more confident.
Those thugs were untraceable, and after what they did to Beatrice all night, she figured Beatrice would be too shattered to
gather any evidence. The thought filled Madeline with a sense of triumph.
Poor, pathetic Beatrice. You can cause a scene, and Desmond can be furious, but in the end, he’ll still leave you.
I’ve already won, Madeline thought with a smirk.
Everyone in the crowd began to waver, unsettled by her vicious oath.
Jane erupted in fury and lashed out at Beatrice, hurling all kinds of nasty remarks at her.
