Trapped in the boss's embrace (by Katrina A) novel Chapter 30

Chapter 30 Play Poker

Beatrice was stunned.

She held her breath.

She didn’t have time to hide, and Damian spotted her excited expression.

He narrowed his eyes, as if he had seen through what was in her mind.

Hey, Killian, she fidgeted with her sleeve, would you mind if I stepped outside for some air? I just need a minute.

Of course,he nodded, his expression softening. Take all the time you need. I’ve got things covered here.

Okay. Call me if there is anything.

Relief flooding through her, Beatrice clicked away in her heels as fast as she could,

She found a quiet spot where two chairs overlooked the water.

Settling in, she watched the waves roll beneath the city lights that twinkled like stars on the horizon. She felt the tension melt from her shoulders. The sea breeze kissed her skin, bringing a sense of peace she hadn’t felt in a long time.

After letting the ocean breeze calm her nerves for a few minutes, she dug her old phone out of her purse.

She’d switched it off right after talking to Violet, getting a new phone and number when she arrivedeasier for work, she’d told herself. Now, watching the screen light up, her stomach dropped. Over a hundred missed calls stared back at her

The calls came from various sources, including unfamiliar numbers, her parents, Violet, other friends, her former subordinates, and even some business acquaintances.

Violet had sent her several messages, the earliest of which read: [Don’t answer the calls. Don’t pay attention to them. Don’t believe them. They are all from Desmond!]

An hour after that, Violet sent her another message. [Beatie, where are you?]

Her parents asked: [Where have you been? Come back soon!]

Even Scarlett asked: [Where are you?]

Beatrice scrolled through message after message, her heart heavy as she realized how many people were worried about her. And to think most of them were from Desmond.

God, Desmond, you psycho!she muttered.

Her phone was flooded with messages and voicemails from him.

The first few texts from Desmond were calm, just asking where she was. But they quickly spiraled into desperate, angry messages. The latest voicemail, from just five minutes ago, made her stomach turn.

His voice was rough and broken, barely coherent through his

tears.

Baby, pleaseI know I messed up. God, I’m such a worthless piece of shit. I’m so, so sorryJust give me one more chanceYou can do whatever you want to me, I deserve itTake some time if you need it, I’ll be here waitingIt was just one mistake, pleaseplease don’t throw everything away like this

Beatrice immediately turned off her phone again.

If it were a second late, she would be yanked back into the bottomless abyss by the wretched, sobbing man on the other end of the phone.

In Cloudia, Desmond sat on the lawn in front of the villa, looking haggard, with messy hair and blue stubble on his chin.

Empty wine bottles scattered around his feet, the dark villa looming behind him like a ghost. He couldn’t bring himself to step insideevery room would just remind him of her absence. Without Beatrice there, it wasn’t home anymore.

Desmond had spent the entire day scouring every nook and cranny, leaving no stone unturned in his desperate search. But it was as if she’d vanished from the planet, not a single shred of

evidence of her whereabouts to be found….

The fear of losing her wrapped around his throat like a choking vine.

He tilted his head back to stare at the moon, his eyes burning.

On the ocean, Beatrice looked up too.

It was a full moon tonight, bright as a mirror, so intense it hurt to look at. Slowly, that perfect surface seemed to crack into countless piecesjust like their past, now shattered beyond repair.

Beatrice sat there for a long while.

When Killian called and asked her to go to the cabin on the second floor, she got up and went upstairs.

The second deck was an entertainment paradisecomplete with a swimming pool, karaoke rooms, a home theater, game rooms, and even an indoor golf simulator. Everything you could want for a good time.

This floor was purely for kicking back and having fun.

Killian told her that the boss was playing poker in the game room.

Beatrice smiled knowingly. The rich were fond of this moneyburning game.

before.

But before he could speak, she had already calmly taken her

seat.

She checked her hole cards and then the community cards.

Not losing would be simpleshe could just fold. However, she was currently representing Damian. Backing down again and again would lose his face.

But how could she win?

A plan began taking shape in her mind.

She appeared calm and composed, showing no sign of panic and giving people the illusion that she was a master.

She played for more than half an hour.

In the beginning, Beatrice was extremely cautious. She carefully checked her cards, folded them when necessary, added chips in a measured manner, and only raised the bet when she had a good hand.

She always focused on a relatively inconspicuous stack.

But as the game dragged on, a sense of restlessness crept over her, and she began to bet more boldly. After a few consecutive wins, she grew increasingly excited.

When she realized there was a possibility of getting a royal flush,

she was on the verge of going allin.

Killian grabbed her shoulder in panic, his fingers digging in. What was she thinking? Even if she sold her soul to Mr. Crowley, she couldn’t cover a loss this big! He’d only asked her to fill in for a few hands, not go full Vegas!

Ms. Lawson, go to find Mr. Crowley. I’ll take your place.Killian forced a smile.
