Damian’s face was a stone mask. The warmth in his dark eyes had vanished, replaced by something cold and dangerous.

He ignored everyone else in the room, his gaze fixed solely on Beatrice.

“Do you want to resign?” he asked.

“Of course not!”

Beatrice answered without hesitation.

She was about to divorce Desmond. Even if she weren’t, he had no right to make decisions for her.

Desmond’s face turned ashen.

Harper, too, was glaring at Beatrice, her eyes cold and furious.

But Damian’s lips curved into a faint smile. “Good.”

He checked his watch before looking up. “The doctor says your leg needs a week minimum to heal. I can arrange a private flight if you’d like to head back to Cloudia early.”

“No need,” Beatrice said quickly. “I’ll just go back with everyone else.”

A private jet just for me? Way too much.

“Alright, then we’ll go back together.”

Damian’s smile deepened slightly.

After reminding her to rest well, he left with Killian.

Harper had wanted to say something to Beatrice, but after seeing Damian leave, she hesitated for a few seconds before choosing to follow him instead.

Before she left, she shot Beatrice a furious glare.

Beatrice was speechless.

She finally understood that any woman around Damian was a potential threat in Harper’s eyes.

“You’re flirting with him right in front of me! Do you think I’m

dead?!”

A furious voice suddenly erupted beside her.

Beatrice flinched.

She turned to see Desmond, his face burning with rage.

She had completely forgotten there was still a tough nut to crack right next to her.

“Mr. Belmont, keep your voice down. This is a hospital,” she said.

“Don’t call me Mr. Belmont!”

“Alright, then get out of my sight,” Beatrice said with a fake smile.

With that, she lay down and pulled the blanket over her head.

Desmond was so furious that his chest ached.

Yet, there was nothing he could do. He sat at the edge of the bed in silence, watching his wife ignore him, feeling as if his heart was being seared in hot oil.

Beatrice stayed in the hospital for three days.

Desmond refused to leave her side the entire time.

His phone rang constantly. He answered some calls, but most of them he simply declined.

It was obvious he was extremely agitated.

Did the Fairfaxes manage to spring Madeline? Beatrice wondered.

It wasn’t impossible. After all, Desmond had gotten out so quickly because of the Belmont family’s killer legal team.

Yet, the Fairfax family’s lawyers were certainly no pushovers either.

That afternoon, she locked herself in the bathroom and called

Violet.

“Violet, where are you? Did Desmond come looking for you?”

“I’m in Shauzhark. He found me.”

“Shauzhark? Weren’t you in Isaedia?”

“It’s a long story.”

Beatrice didn’t mention that she was now working as Damian’s secretary or that she was injured.

“What about Madeline?” she asked instead.

Violet angrily slammed the table. “The Fairfax family submitted medical records proving she has a psychological disorder. She was bailed out at noon yesterday.

“Today, their lawyers came to negotiate a settlement. I told them to take their dirty money and shove it! We will never-”

“I agree to settle.”

“What?” Violet thought she had misheard. “Did you just say settle?”

“Desmond’s playing the reformed husband card, going on about how he can’t live without me. I’ve tried everything to shake him off, but he’s like a leech.

“At this point, even blackmailing him with the evidence might not work. And let’s be real. I don’t stand a chance against him in court. So… I need someone in my corner.”

Violet caught on to her plan immediately and was completely stunned.

Beatrice wants to use Madeline to take down Desmond?

“The Fairfax family spoils her senselessly. If she loses it, they’ll pressure Desmond into marrying her. At that point, he’ll have not choice but to divorce me.”

Violet was silent for a long time.

Honestly… you’re all kind of insane.

Before hanging up, she couldn’t help but ask, “What if Desmond regrets everything? What if he loves you? Wouldn’t you feel even a little bit of hesitation?”
