Chapter 64 You’re Mine
Damian answered the call.
At the same time, he gave a casual wave to dismiss all those self–important, cliquish executives in his office.
They bolted out like they’d been granted a stay of execution.
One more second in that room and they’d have needed ventilators.

It hit them with sudden, terrifying clarity–the young heir who’d been abroad all this time had apparently been biding his time, sharpening his skills and building his arsenal.
He wasn’t at all what they’d assumed–just a pretty face riding his family’s connections and resources to success in Astraea without any real talent of his own.
They thought they just needed to be a little clever to have Damian wrapped around their finger.
But instead, they got their faces slapped one after another.
Killian stood in the corner of the office, looking as stunned as if he’d stepped into some bizarre dream.
“Ms. Lawson, what can I do for you?” Damian held his phone to his ear, his tone characteristically cool and detached.

“So, here’s the thing,” Beatrice said. “I was supposed to come back to work the day after tomorrow since my leg is better, but I need to visit my grandmother’s place… I’d like to take another week off.”
Her voice sounded perfectly normal. Anyone who wasn’t paying close attention wouldn’t notice anything off, but he knew she was just putting on a brave face.
Damian went quiet for a few seconds.
“You’re really getting addicted to skipping work, aren’t you? Don’t tell me you’re planning to milk this injury to slack off forever.”
“That’s not it…” she protested.
“I expect you at work the day after tomorrow.”
“What about five days-”
“Not a chance. I want to see you in person the day after tomorrow morning.”
Silence hung between them. Beatrice stayed quiet for a few
seconds.
Finally, she deflated like a punctured balloon, her voice dropping. “I’m sorry. I had no idea the divorce would get so messy. If I’d known, I wouldn’t have rushed to apply for this job and caused you so much trouble. Just give me five more days. I

promise I’ll sort everything out, otherwise…”
“Otherwise what?” Damian challenged.
“You’ll get dragged into this mess, too,” Beatrice replied.

The scandal had been brewing for nearly three hours now. The chances he didn’t know about it were practically zero.
She didn’t have much faith in turning public opinion around within two days.
Showing up at NobleQuest Group now and being seen coming and going with Damian would only fuel more gossip about him,
too.
“Oh, so that’s what you’re worried about,” Damian said with sudden realization.
Then, in his typical fashion, he completely switched topics. “So, what’s your game plan? Got something up your sleeve?”
Beatrice paused for five seconds before answering simply, “I’ll fight dirty and negotiate with them.”
Damian was speechless. He let out a sigh loaded with mixed emotions. “Ms. Lawson, you’re scaring me.”
“I don’t usually go there,” Beatrice explained, “but they’ve pushed me way too far.”
“I meant your blind confidence is what’s scaring me.”

“You’re smart enough to figure out that Autumn’s just the puppet and the Fairfax family is pulling the strings. What makes you think you can take on two powerful families all by yourself?”
“I’ve got my ways,” she shot back stubbornly.
“Beatrice, having guts is great and all, but courage can’t replace actual power. A unicorn charging into a pride of lions isn’t brave. It’s just suicide.”
“Even if I kill myself, I’m taking the mastermind down with me first! I don’t care if we both go down together!”
As soon as the words left her mouth, Beatrice realized she was talking crazy.
Damian’s face turned dead serious.
Beatrice could feel him getting pissed even through the phone.
“Sorry,” she backpedaled. “I shouldn’t have said stupid stuff like that.”
Damian’s expression softened a bit. “Since you’re one of my people now, you represent my reputation too. You come to work on time, and I’ll figure out a way to solve this mess for you. Deal?”
His voice was pure templation. It had that whole “just nod and I’ll make all your problems disappear” energy.

Beatrice had zero doubt he could pull it off.
He was Damian, after all.
Having a top–tier power player watching her back felt like scoring a ticket to Noah’s Ark during the apocalypse.
Yet, on second thought, she realized that he might be way too nice to her.
Her face instantly went hot.

Violet’s leasing comments and all those suggestive things he’d said last night started doing low fly–bys in her brain, dropping bombs everywhere.
After waiting forever with no response, Damian asked, “Still thinking about it?”
“I appreciate your kindness, but I need to handle my own problems! Thanks anyway! Goodbye!” Beatrice blurted it all out in a panic and hung up.
Damian was suddenly at a loss for words.
He thoughtfully set his phone aside, and after a moment, something seemed to click. His eyes darkened.
Meanwhile, Beatrice clutched her phone for a solid five minutes before her heartbeat finally steadied itself.
Sure, he’d been nice to her, but where exactly had she gotten the

idea that he was interested in her?
She was totally overthinking things.
After all, Damian wasn’t even into women.

Suddenly, the front door crashed against the wall, pulling back Beatrice’s wandering mind.
Violet was home.
She’d had a court hearing that morning that wrapped up after
