Desmond had arrived.
The moment Madeline saw him, her eyes lit up like Christmas morning.
“Desmond!” she exclaimed, jumping up and running toward him excitedly.

When she was still about ten feet away, Desmond threw hist hands up like he was warding off a venomous snake. The disgust in his eyes was obvious.
He sidestepped her completely, didn’t even glance at the Fairfax family, and strode straight to his parents.
Then he locked eyes with Autumn and snapped, “Who told you to make up all this nonsense? Do you think I haven’t screwed up enough already, or do you just want me to look like a bigger fool?”
Autumn stared at her son in shock.
The Fairfaxes‘ faces darkened instantly.
His words seemed directed at Autumn, but they were actually meant for the Fairfax family to hear.
The Belmont family could have stayed completely out of the

Twitter drama, but instead, they’d thrown themselves into the
fire.
The public, clueless about the backstory, now thought the Belmont and Fairfax families were old family friends. Those in the know about the charity gala drama assumed the two families had reached some kind of agreement.
But only the Fairfax and Belmont families knew the truth. Autumn had been completely manipulated by the Fairfax family.
Desmond’s comment was a total dig at them.
“Nobody told me what to do. I just felt that things had gone too far, and I needed to give Madeline some legitimacy. If you two want a proper wedding, we have to turn this situation around. I’m just looking out for everyone here.”
Hearing Autumn’s words, everyone went dead silent.
Desmond narrowed his eyes and shot Autumn a confused look.
After the charity gala disaster, she wouldn’t even let Madeline step foot inside the Belmont Manor. How had her attitude flipped so completely in just a few days?
William spoke up from the side, “What’s done is done. Stop giving your mother a hard time. We need to focus on what
comes next.”
Before Desmond could respond, Jane jumped in. “Exactly, Mr.

William Belmont. Look, it takes two to tango. My daughter might be a bit headstrong, but your son isn’t exactly innocent here. You can’t expect a young woman to shoulder all the blame by herself.
“Besides, Madeline thought Beatrice was just some ex–girlfriend Desmond used to date. She had no clue they were secretly married this whole time. Desmond messed it up. He’s been keeping his marriage a secret, after all.”
“This whole mess has completely wrecked my daughter. We can barely show our faces in public anymore. He owes my daughter some kind of explanation.”
After that charity gala fiasco, the Fairfax family had actually wanted the relationship to end too. Everyone in their social circle had already gotten their fill of drama, and even if the families joined through marriage, nobody would forget this trainwreck.
But then the Twitter scandal dropped, and overnight, the entire city of Cloudia, hell, the whole world, found out Madeline was the other woman.
Now, Madeline was threatening suicide every other day, acting like she couldn’t live without Desmond. The Fairfax family had completely run out of options.
As soon as Jane finished speaking, William was deep in thought about how to respond when Desmond cut in with an icy declaration, “I’m not getting divorced, and I’m definitely not marrying your daughter!”

Madeline’s face turned glist–puile. Jane’s expression darkened like a storm cloud!
The atmosphere in the restauranttiinstantly plummeted to freezer–burn levels, with everyone’s fates frozenin awkward shock.
The entire family had agreed to this marriage everyone except the groom himself. That fact made all their earlier laughter and celebration seem like some sick joke..
Quentin stood up and pulled Desmond aside, keeping his wote low.
“It’s too late to play the devoted husband now. Beatrice probably hates your guts and the entire Belmont family by this point.. Getting back with her isn’t happening! Madeline is crazy aboutt you and won’t settle for anyone else. Marrying her would only benefit you.”
“I’ll say it one more time,” Desmond replied, his voice hard as concrete. “I will never marry your sister.”
“You-” Quentin sputtered, “You mess around with her and now you’re backing out? Have you no conscience? She didn’t hold a gun to your head to start this relationship! This isn’t some redemption story. You’re screwing over both women!”
“I never said I wasn’t at fault,” Desmond replied, “but I love my wife.”

“If you, the Belmonts dare to take back what you said, we’ll make sure Beatrice and her family vanish from Cloudia for good!”
“If anything happens to my daughter, you’re dead to me! I’ll make sure everyone in Cloudia knows you’re nothing but a heartless player who used her and threw her away!”
The accusations kept coming, each one louder than the last, until William felt like his head would explode.
Autumn just sat there, looking as lifeless and checked–out as before.
