Out of instinct, Ethan turned his head at the exact moment the two car windows passed each other.
He caught only a glimpse of the nose and lips beneath the black brim of the cap.
As the car drove past, Ethan remembered the license plate.
Meanwhile, Violet was on her way to Beatrice’s apartment.
Unable to contain her anxiety, she called Damian to check on the situation, even though she knew the property management would need time to investigate and that Damian wasn’t omnipotent.
“The management office hasn’t gotten back to me yet,” Damian answered. “But my man spotted a suspicious vehicle leaving the garage. We’re looking into it now.”
“A suspicious vehicle?” Violet’s heart pounded. “Beatrice mentioned someone was following her. Could that be them?”
“No, that person is still outside the building. Probably sent by Desmond,” Damian replied.
Violet was surprised by his deduction but didn’t dwell on it. “Alright. I’m heading to her apartment to check anyway. Maybe it’s just a false alarm.”

She said this with almost no hope in her heart.
After hanging up, Violet rushed to the apartment.
When she saw the darkened room, her heart sank.
Recalling what Damian had said about Desmond potentially having Beatrice followed, Violet wondered if that man was merely a diversion.
She dialed Desmond’s number immediately.

As soon as he answered, she shouted, “Desmond, what have you done with Beatrice? Where are you hiding her? When will this stop?”
“She’s missing?” Desmond bolted upright from the couch.
He was on the 20th floor of the same building.
He knew Beatrice was returning from the fishing village today. The last time he’d left Violet’s place, he’d had her followed.
“Yes, she’s gone. Don’t play innocent, Desmond! It must be you, your mother, or that bitch Madeline.” Violet paced anxiously around the room.
Desmond offered no explanation and simply hung up.
“Damn you, Desmond!” Violet cursed, convinced he was behind. Beatrice’s disappearance.

Shortly after, Damian delivered news that made the situation even more perplexing.

The building manager had reviewed the surveillance footage from the building’s garage and found no record of Beatrice’s car entering nor of any other vehicles entering or leaving. However, footage from the main gate showed Beatrice’s car going in, and her vehicle was indeed in the garage.
This meant that Beatrice’s car had somehow vanished from the surveillance footage after entering the building. Someone had tampered with the surveillance system.
The garage was typically quiet with minimal traffic during that time period. The staff there likely wouldn’t have detected. interference lasting several hours if the feed had appeared static.
Violet called the police without hesitation.
Soon, both police officers and property management staff flooded the previously quiet garage.
Violet recounted the incident to the police, mentioning the suspicious vehicle Damian had told her about, while the building manager provided additional context.
Meanwhile, Damian was outside tracking the suspicious car with Ethan.
Information from property management confirmed the car’s suspicious nature, and Damian trusted Ethan’s intuition.

No one could be certain whether Beatrice had been taken away or was still somewhere in the building. Too much could have happened during the surveillance interruption.
Damian had requested the police and property management to investigate while he pursued the suspicious vehicle. Whatever information came to light, they needed to share it immediately to find Beatrice as quickly as possible.
As for suspects, the Fairfax and Belmont families topped the list. Everyone had seen the trending topics circulating online in recent days.
But the police couldn’t make arrests based on suspicion alone. They needed concrete evidence.
The police scoured every corner of the garage.
The property management staff contacted the residents of the building. The occupants were all wealthy individuals with luxury cars filling the garage, so the police proceeded cautiously.
Simultaneously, they verified with residents whether the suspicious black car belonged to anyone or their guests. The signal jammers could only work temporarily; entry and exit were now under stricter control, and any hacking attempt would be discovered immediately.
If a forced intrusion were detected, the entire building would go on high alert, making it difficult for a perpetrator to act.

However, if the car belonged to a resident or if a resident had granted access to a visitor, this subtle approach would be safe, allowing someone to operate under the radar.
The residents confirmed the car wasn’t theirs, and none had visitors that day.
The building manager reviewed a day’s worth of surveillance. footage of people entering and leaving the building but found no sign of the suspicious vehicle.
The car was like a “ghost.”
After hearing Violet’s update, Damian considered for a moment and said, “Check earlier footage.”
Violet relayed this to property management.
Puzzled, they checked surveillance from previous days. Shockingly, they discovered the black car had entered the building three days ago.
That night, after the car entered the residential area, a man in black wearing a cap had exited the vehicle. He entered the building carrying a box, went upstairs, came back down, and got into the car.
He never left.
Footage showed he had gone to the 18th floor.
Kylie Meyer, a resident on the 18th floor, said, “That’s the sushi

“Who is he?” the police asked urgently. “Do you have his contact information?”
Kylie shook her head. “No. I was home that night, and my friend ordered food for me. Usually, deliveries go through building management, but my friend said the restaurant owner was particular about food temperature and insisted on personal delivery, so I allowed him up.”
Everyone present shuddered at her lack of caution.
