Chapter 73 Divorced
Desmond’s chest tightened, a dull ache spreading through his heart.
“I won’t marry again. I won’t date anyone else, either…”

“That’s not my concern,” Beatrice cut him off, her voice steady. “From now on, you’re free, and I’m free. Let’s both move on and wish each other happiness.”
“So, you’re gonna be with someone else?”
The moment the words left his mouth, Damian’s obnoxious face flashed across Desmond’s mind.
Beatrice let out a soft sigh, her expression almost wistful. “Can’t I be happy on my own?”
Desmond’s heart, which had been aching and tight, loosened a little. “Really? You’re serious about staying single, not looking for another guy?”
He looked at her anxiously with hope in his eyes, almost begging for her to give him a definitive answer.
Beatrice didn’t answer right away. Instead, she gave him a soft, knowing smile.
And with a calm but final tone, she said, “I’ll go now. Goodbye.”

She turned and walked away, her steps graceful and decisive.

Desmond stepped forward, as though compelled to follow, but then stopped himself, frozen in place.
He watched her leave, not taking his eyes off her until she got into the car and drove away.
He knew she wouldn’t turn back, yet a small part of him still hoped she might.
He longed for one last glance, one final sign that she still cared, that she wasn’t completely letting go. But as the car disappeared into the distance, she never looked back.
His heart felt hollow, that painful emptiness swallowing him whole.
It was as if he was gasping for air, wanting to hold onto anything but knowing, deep down, it was all slipping through his fingers.
With a sharp motion, he ripped the divorce certificate into pieces and threw it in the trash can.
About thirty minutes later, Beatrice drove back home.
She neatly placed the divorce papers in a drawer, then changed into a cozy outfit, brewing herself a pot of coffee.

Sitting at the counter, she sipped slowly, letting the warmth of
the cup settle her nerves.
She felt strangely mixed.
It was like finishing a long journey. There was a sense of wistfulness, a little sadness, maybe even a bit of wanting to cry. But mostly, it was a relief, because it was finally over.
She smiled faintly, savoring the coffee, the heat of it comforting in the midst of the storm inside her.
Later that afternoon, she received a call from the police.
Madeline had suffered a sudden health crisis, possibly an epileptic seizure. Her lawyer had already applied for medical bail.
She thought Madeline stopped at anything to escape her responsibilities.
At the same time, Damian got the same news.
But he didn’t intervene. He was curious to see what tricks the Fairfax family would pull next.
The Fairfax family had learned of Madeline’s attack on Damian as soon as it happened and rushed to the hospital. But Damian refused to see them, turning down their apology without a second thought.
The Fairfax family had clearly made an enemy of him.

Quentin, on the other hand, was scrambling.

He’d been trying to get a meeting with Damian to discuss some. loan business, but now Madeline had made everything even more complicated. That meeting was off the table.
What weighed on him the most was that, no matter how reckless Madeline was, the Fairfax family couldn’t just ignore the mess she’d created.
By offending Damian, the Fairfax family would lose a lot of allies in Cloudia. The Belmont family was probably also on Damian’s blacklist now, and with the tensions between the two families, both of their reputations were in freefall.
If the Fairfax and Belmont families were to unite through marriage, they wouldn’t fear the Crowley family.
But what really stung was that Desmond wouldn’t even stand with the Fairfax family.
At the hospital, Madeline lay in bed with her eyes closed.
Outside, the Fairfax family was arguing over what to do next.
During this time, Quentin answered a phone call.
“Desmond and Beatrice got divorced?” He gasped.
The moment she heard the news, Madeline opened her eyes, her face lighting up with an uncontrollable rush of joy.

Perfect!
Now Desmond can finally marry me!

With that in mind, Madeline jumped out of bed and ripped the IV out of her arm.
She was ready to leave, but the medication she’d taken, something that could trigger seizures, left her body feeling weak and unsteady. Without warning, her legs gave out, and she crashed to the floor.
The sound immediately caught the attention of those outside.
Quentin rushed in, his face etched with frustration as he lifted her off the floor and gently placed her back in bed.
“Can you just give it a rest for once?”
“Quentin, is it really true? Did Desmond divorce her?” Madeline gripped his arm, her eyes wide with anticipation.
“Even if he’s divorced, he still won’t marry you. Let it go.”
“I won’t! He’s mine! He has to be!”
“Madeline, enough already. If Desmond wanted to marry you, he would’ve done it last time. He didn’t. And now, after everything you’ve done to Beatrice…” Quentin took a deep breath, trying to keep his cool. “Do you really think he’ll still care about you?”
Chapter 73 Divorced
“He will marry me! I know how to make it happen! I’m sure of it! Just trust me!” Madeline’s confidence was chilling, as if she had already convinced herself that Desmond would come running to her.
Quentin and the rest of the family members exchanged.

worried glances, unsure whether this was just stubbornness or something more serious.
Beatrice spent the whole afternoon seething, especially when she heard that the man in black had taken the blame for everything.
The police had found that he and Madeline were friends, and it seemed he had secretly been in love with her. But there was no direct evidence linking her to the incident, no proof that she had explicitly encouraged him, and no money transfers.
What they did find were her messages, full of complaints, with plenty of hints about her frustrations.
Beatrice knew without a doubt that Madeline was behind it all, but with no recordings and only the two of them there, there was no way to prove it.
She had no appetite for dinner and skipped it altogether.
